The Colorado Rockies are down bad this year. The National League side lost their 5th straight game on Thursday night which left them with a poor 8-42 record. This is the worst 50-game start by an team in the MLB history.
Things have not been going well for the Rockies for the past few years. The Denver-based side finished bottom of the division last season as well with a 61-101 record. This was the second straight season where they finished with more than 100 losses as they had finished with a 59-103 record.
This year though, things just keep getting worse for the team. After enduring an 8-game losing run, the team defeated the San Diego Padres 9-3. They then lost the next 4 games on the bounce before taking down the Arizona Diamondbacks 14-12.
Since that win, they have lost 5 successive games, which included getting swept in a 4-game series by the Philadelphia Phillies. The 2-0 loss on Thursday saw them lose their 42nd match of the season. After the first 50 games, this is the worst record in MLB history.

Their poor start to the season has seen the team relieve manager Bud Black of his duties. Black, who was hired in 2016, was let go by the team after several disappointing results. Despite a change at the helm, the fortunes have not changed for the NL West side.
Social media reacts to Colorado Rockies making unwanted MLB history
There is an old cliche which says, “Records are made to be broken.” The Colorado Rockies are also breaking some MLB records. They are just not the good ones.

Thursday’s night loss against the Phillies saw the team fall 23 games behind the first placed team in the NL West, the Los Angeles Dodgers. Their 8-42 record is the worst any team has recorded in the first 50 games of a season in the modern era.
Them setting this record ignited some wild reactions on social media. Several fans trolled the team while some blasted them. One user on X wrote, “Should be relegated” while reacting to this.
Check out that reaction and some others below:
Should be relegated.

Rockies saw the White Sox break the loss record last year and really said "hold my beer"

At this point it’s more exciting to see how bad can they really be. My eyes are on that worst run differential of all time record

Thank you DICK. You’re the worst owner in baseball.

In May so far, the team is 3-17. Things do not get any easier for the them, as they face the New York Yankees next. At the moment, any matchup for them is going to be difficult.
Rockies hoping to avoid breaking White Sox’s most losses record
Last year, the Chicago White Sox set an unwanted record as they became the team with the most losses in a season. The American League side finished with a 41-121 record, the worst in MLB history. The Colorado Rockies are hoping to avoid that.

During the 2024 season, the White Sox had several 10 or more successive losing runs. A late surge saw them finish with more than 40 wins.
The Rockies just do not look like a team capable of winning at the moment. The team are currently on pace for a 26-136 record.
If they do finish with this projected record, they would break that unwanted record of the White Sox in just one season. Speaking of the White Sox’s record, they were 15-35 in their first 50 games last season. This record is still much better than the one Rockies have currently.
Record through 50 games.

2024 White Sox: 15-35
2025 Rockies: 8-42
Following the visit of the Yankees to Coors Field, the team will be on a 9-game road trip against the Chicago Cubs, the New York Mets and the Miami Marlins. After that, they will return home to take on the Mets once again.
