Rocky Balboa holds a special place in the hearts of every American, especially for someone from Philadelphia. The pop culture icon hails from the same neighborhood as the Eagles, who are set to face the Washington Commanders in the NFC Championship game on Sunday, January 26.
A statue in honor of the iconic boxer was placed in front of the Philadelphia Museum, which gradually became a popular tourist destination over the years. However, it appears someone took advantage of it.
A short clip surfaced on Friday, revealing that the Rocky statue received a rebrand, which might anger the Philly natives, especially the Eagles’ fans. Someone decorated the statue with Washington Redskins (Commanders) gear, aimed as a taunt for the Eagles supporters.

Originating from the mind of legendary Hollywood actor Sylvester Stallone, Rocky became a historic movie franchise because of its motivational dialogues and fight scenes. Similar to the cheesesteak, Rocky is etched into the culture of Philly.
Ahead of the release of Rocky III, Stallone commissioned bronze statues of Rocky. One of the 2-ton, 10-foot (3.0 m)-tall Rocky statues were placed at the bottom of the 72 steps in front of the Philadelphia Museum of Art in Philly, overlooking the Eakins Oval, Benjamin Franklin Parkway, and Philadelphia City Hall.
Decorating an important part of the local culture will only give the Eagles’ fans more to cheer for them, as Jared Verse experienced in the divisional game.
The Eagles fans point to the last time someone decorated the Rocky Statue
It rarely ended well for the rival fans whenever they decorated the Rocky statue with the colors of their team. One doesn’t need to go back further in time for the latest incident.
Before the 2022 NFC Divisional round fixture against the New York Giants, unknown fans were dressed in Giants’ colors. The Eagles won the game 38-7, and the following week it was dressed in San Francisco 49ers colors, and the game ended 31-7.
Quarterback Jalen Hurts combined threw for more than 270+ yards and 2 touchdowns. He’s ready to hand the Commanders a defeat despite struggling with a knee injury.
The last time the Eagles and Commanders faced each other was back in 1991. The Commanders won 20-6.
