Manchester City star Rodri admitted that he did not receive a call from Vinicius Jr. or Real Madrid following his Ballon d’Or win. The Spaniard came first among the 30 shortlisted players. Meanwhile, Real Madrid stars Vinicius and Jude Bellingham finished second and third, respectively.
Rodri became the first midfielder since Luka Modric to win the Ballon d’Or, beating Vinicius to the trophy. Real Madrid, as a club, were left fuming as they decided to boycott the ceremony in protest. This was after having known about the outcome prior to the gala event. Vinicius’ snub also did not sit well with many.
They felt that his brilliant season with Real, winning the La Liga and the UCL, made him a better candidate. Rodri, on the other hand, won the EPL with Man City and the 2024 Euros with Spain. Upon being questioned whether he received a call from Real Madrid or Vinicius Jr. after his win, Rodri revealed that he did not.
The Spaniard claimed that he was unfazed at Real Madrid’s delegation missing out during the ceremony. The only Los Blancos star, he revealed, to speak to him after the win was Spain teammate Dani Carvajal. The right-back himself finished fourth on the list. As for the other Real Madrid stars not wishing him, Rodri stated that it did not matter after they opted to boycott the ceremony.

Real Madrid players shared messages in support of Vinicius after the ceremony. Meanwhile, Rodri, despite receiving hatred from Real Madrid fans, has been linked with a sensational transfer to the club next summer.
Manchester City shortlist replacements for injured midfielder Rodri, who has been ruled out for the season
After four back-to-back defeats in all competitions, it looks increasingly likely that Manchester City will line up a replacement for injured midfielder Rodri in January. The 28-year-old Ballon d’Or winner has been ruled out for the season due to an ACL injury.
Despite Mateo Kovacic filling in for Rodri, he has struggled to replicate his form, leaving Pep Guardiola’s side vulnerable. The Cityzens were previously linked with Bruno Guimaraes, but his massive release clause at Newcastle would be a problem. Recent reports state that the club has shortlisted three players. This includes Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi, Atalanta’s Ederson, and Torino’s Samuele Ricci.
Apart from them, City has also identified two veteran stars, Inter Milan’s Hakan Calhanoglu and out-of-favor Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka. Additionally, AC Milan star Tijjani Reijders and Crystal Palace youngster Adam Wharton have emerged as possible targets.
