Roger Federer, 20 time Grandslam champion made the headlines after he withdrew from the Australian Open 2021, earlier this week. The Swiss maestro has been out with a knee injury for majority of the season and was raring to make his comeback at the Australian Open 2021. However, time was insufficient for the Swiss to make a full recovery.

Roger Federer, ranked 5th in the world is almost certain to drop out of the Top 5 rankings after the Australian Open 2021. Federer has 6630 ranking points, and will lose 800 points as he was a semifinalist at last year’s Australian Open. That will take down his points tally to 5910. However, it is impossible for the Swiss to drop out of the Top 10 rankings. Matteo Berrettini, ranked 10th currently, cannot overtake Federer even if he wins the Australian Open, next year.

Roger Federer can drop to as low as 8th in ATP Rankings after Australian Open

Tsitsipas, Zverev and Rublev can all overtake Federer in the ATP rankings

Roger Federer’s best ranking after the Australian Open can be 6th and the worst can be 8th. As of now, Federer is ranked 5th, Stefanos Tsitsipas is ranked 6th, Alexander Zverev is ranked 7th and Andrey Rublev, 8th.

Once the Australian Open starts, all the players will drop points but Federer will not be able to add more points due to his withdrawal. Before the Grandslam gets underway, we have Federer with 5910, Tsitsipas with 5835, Zverev with 4805, and Rublev with 3939 points.

A third round win over Tsitsipas will take him above Roger Federer. If Alexander Zverev reaches the final, he will overtake the Swiss. If the Russian, Andrey Rublev wins the Australian Open 2021, he will overtake Federer. If all the above scenarios come true, then Federer will drop to number eight in ATP Rankings.
