‘Roger Federer believes he can win a Grand Slam again’ : Uncle Toni
Tony Nadal or Uncle Toni as he is fondly called has put his weight behind Roger Federer. He believes Roger Federer is the one person who can make a comeback at the age of thirty nine and win a Grand Slam. Toni pointed out Federer’s performance at the 2019 Wimbledon for the naysayers.
In the 2019 Wimbledon Final Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer fought an epic battle of five sets, which Djokovic won by a whisker 7-6 1-6 7-6 4-6 13-12. Uncle Toni was realistic though and sounded out a veiled warning for Federer. He believes it will not be easy for Federer or for that matter anyone who is making a comeback. Especially at that age to actually win a grand Slam.
Federer at Wimbledon
Federer’s love affair with Wimbledon began at an early age. He won the boy’s singles and Doubles title there in 1998. In the senior section, his first Grand Slam win was also at the Wimbledon in 2003. The twenty one year old Federer beat Mark Philippoussis, 7-6 6-2 7-6 in the 2003 Finals.
In the next decade , he won another seven more, to make it a grand total of eight Wimbledon Trophies. Roger Federer won Wimbledon in the years, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2012, 2017.
The 2008 Wimbledon Final that was played between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal is considered one of the greatest matches in tennis history. The match had 4 hours and 48 mins of play. The final result, Nadal won the match 6-4 6-4 6-7 6-7 9-7. In the very next season in 2009 Federer came back and won the Wimbledon trophy.
