BREAKING: Roger Federer confirmed to play home ATP 250 event ahead of Roland Garros
The Swiss maestro, Roger Federer had earlier said that he is focusing the most on Tokyo Olympics and Wimbledon for the 2021 season. And hence he was to play just two events on Clay this season.
It is confirmed that Federer will play the ATP 250 Geneva Open ahead of the French Open. The Geneva Open is scheduled from 16th to 22nd May 2021. He took to twitter to confirm that he will play both at Geneva and Paris.
With Masters 1000 events lined up in the Clay season, Federer hasn’t had much of a chance to play at Geneva and hence doesn’t have a title in his name. He will want to win on his home soil and give his fans something to cheer about.
Federer’s participation at Madrid Masters in doubts
Roger Federer made a much-awaited return in Doha earlier this year after a gap of 13 months. On his return, Federer could only win one match and bowed out of the Quarter-Finals.
Federer was initially to play at the Madrid Masters and kick start his Clay season. He hasn’t competed professionally on Clay for almost 2 years having missed the entire last season.
But now, it is unlikely that the Swiss will play Madrid, Geneva and Roland Garros all in a month considering his age. But it will be interesting to see Federer’s movement on Clay. Given his experience, the fans expect him to make a strong comeback and compete at the highest level with the likes of Nadal and Djokovic.
