Roger Federer has been elected into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in the Class of 2026. Besides numerous Grand Slam accolades, the Swiss legend held the World No.1 spot in the ATP rankings for 310 weeks. He retired from professional tennis in 2022.

Federer won 103 tour-level titles during his time in the sport, second to Jimmy Connors, who won 109 titles, while Novak Djokovic is third in that list with 101 titles. The Swiss legend won 20 Grand Slams during his career, with his first coming in 2003 at the Wimbledon Championship, and by 2009, he had surpassed Pete Sampras’ record with 15 major titles.

He also won 28 ATP Masters 1000 crowns. Federer also owns the record for the most consecutive weeks at World No.1 at 237 weeks from February 2004 to August 2008. He finished the year-end World No.1 five times and was named the ATP Fans’ Favorite from 2003 to 2001, a record nineteen times.

The 44-year-old star claimed his 20th Grand Slam at the 2018 Australian Open in Melbourne. He also led Switzerland to its first Davis Cup in 2014. He and his partner Stan Wawrinka won the doubles gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, with Rafael Nadal winning the singles gold category.

In a video posted on X, Federer was seen arriving at the Switzerland Tennis complex, where he met with young tennis stars before being told by WTA legend Kim Clijsters about his election to the International Tennis Hall of Fame. He revealed that it was a tremendous honor to be among the great champions of the sport:

It’s a tremendous honor to be inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame and to stand alongside so many of the game’s great champions. Throughout my career, I’ve always valued the history of tennis and the example set by those who came before me. It was very special to receive the news at Swiss Tennis, surrounded by the next generation of players — the place where my own journey first began.

Federer will be in the Class of 2026 in the induction to the International Tennis Hall of Fame. The class will also include sportscaster and journalist Mary Carillo in the contributor category. The event will take place next year in Newport, Rhode Island, USA from August 27-29. Maria Sharapova was inducted into this year’s class, with Serena Williams giving an emotional introduction.

Former coach of Serena Williams names two players who can replicate a unique Roger Federer skill on the court

Roger Federer is known as one of the most elegant players on tour, often known for his grace and unique style of play on the court. One of his styles was his sneak attack, which has been hard to replicate. On several occasions, he uses it to beat his opponents’ aggressiveness on the court.

Naomi Osaka’s former coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, revealed that only two players can replicate the sneak attack style on the court. He noted that the players are Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz.

You have to be extremely fast-reacting. Imagine a serve on which you are right behind the service line, and you have to do a half volley. Of course, you don’t do it on a first serve, you do it on a second serve. I mean, not so many players could do that. Probably Novak, probably [Carlos] Alcaraz too.

Alcaraz finished the 2025 season at the top of the ATP rankings, following his impressive run at the season-ending tournament in Turin. However, he failed to win the title after losing to Jannik Sinner in the final on Sunday (November 16). Nonetheless, he ended the season with the highest match wins (71) and number of tour-level titles (8).
