Under the hammer: Roger Federer’s Grand Slam Memorabilia to be auctioned in June

If you talk about fan following in tennis, one has to mention how the Big-3 have their respective fandom and adulation. But perhaps, Roger Federer’s fan following is unmatched. Fans across the globe literally worship the Swiss maestro ever since he started winning on the big stage in 2003.

From attending his matches from one corner to the other to buying Federer’s merchandise, fans have exuded their love towards the 20-time Grand Slam champion.

Going ahead, Millions of Federer fans will now get a chance to bid and win some precious mementos and personal stuff of the great man. Recently, the 39-year-old announced that he will be auctioning off a collection of personal items this summer.

Several items will be open for bidding in two sales in June and July at Christie’s to raise money for his foundation. A live auction taking place on June 23 will feature 20 lots, with each one reflecting one of Federer’s Grand Slam titles. Prices will range from 3,000 pounds to 70,000 pounds ($97,146.00).

“Every piece in these auctions represents a moment in my tennis career and enables me to share a part of my personal archive with my fans around the world. More importantly, the proceeds will support The Roger Federer Foundation to help us continue to deliver educational resources to children in Africa and Switzerland,” Federer said.

At the auction will be Federer’s 2009 French Open finals racquet; the shoes he wore during the final with clay on it. Moreover, fans will also get a chance to bid for Federer’s racquet and shoes he used for the Wimbledon 2007 finals. Also up for grabs will be the RF emblazoned cardigan, worn before the 2012 Wimbledon finals.
