Roger Federer is back at the Laver Cup, the tournament where he played the final match of his career along with his longtime rival Rafael Nadal back in 2022. Ahead of the 2024 edition of the Laver Cup, Federer arrived in Berlin and met the two captains – Team Europe’s Bjorn Borg and Team World’s John McEnroe.
Although Federer will be in Berlin throughout the tournament, Nadal won’t participate as he shockingly pulled out of the tournament a few days ago. In the video that announced Federer’s arrival, the 20-time Grand Slam champion could be seen greeting Borg and McEnroe, who also asked the Swiss maestro whether he wanted to hit some balls.

Team Europe’s captain Borg will be captaining the team for the last time and will be replaced by Yannick Noah next year. The team has Carlos Alcaraz, Alexander Zverev, Grigor Dimitrov, Daniil Medvedev, Casper Ruud, and Stefanos Tsitsipas.
Team World will be represented by Frances Tiafoe, Taylor Fritz, Ben Shelton, Francisco Cerundolo, Thanasi Kokkinakis, and Alejandro Tabilo. Laver Cup is scheduled to start on September 20 at the Uber Arena in Berlin.
Bjorn Borg was surprised to see Rafael Nadal cry during Roger Federer’s farewell at the Laver Cup
The tennis community saw an emotional scene during Roger Federer‘s farewell ceremony at the Laver Cup. The pictures of him crying along with Rafael Nadal are etched in the memories of fans. Bjorn Borg, however, was surprised to see Nadal also cry.
We all knew that Roger was going to end his career. But I was surprised that Rafa was crying next to Roger. That was the first time I thought to myself: "You're going to keep playing, aren't you Rafa?" The fact that he was crying just shows how much he cares about Roger.Bjorn Borg told Tennis Magazin
Borg added that as Federer and Nadal have played many incredible matches, it made the latter ‘sad’ as he wouldn’t be meeting his ‘friend’ anymore on the ATP circuit. Nadal and Federer clashed with each other 40 times, out of which the Swiss legend won 16 matches, while the King of Clay emerged victorious 24 times.
They last locked horns in the 2019 Wimbledon semifinal, which Federer won but was denied the title by Novak Djokovic in the final. Nadal, who withdrew from the Laver Cup, also did not play the US Open as the French Open was the only Grand Slam event he played this year due to fitness issues.
