Roger Federer, the 20 time Grandslam champion has been on the sidelines ever since his exhibition match which he played against Rafael Nadal in February. His last professional level match was against Novak Djokovic in the semifinals of the Australian Open which he lost in straight sets. The Swiss suffered from a season ending knee injury and underwent a surgery for the same.

In some good news for Federer fans, the Swiss is back to training and is all set to make a fresh start in the 2021 season. Despite being on the sidelines, Federer continues to make new records as he becomes the first tennis player to be ranked in the top 20 for a period of 1000 weeks.

The Swiss maestro missed almost the entire of the 2020 season but is still ranked as the World number four after a strong performance in 2019 where we on 4 ATP titles and narrowly missed out on the Wimbledon trophy after squandering 2 match points against Novak Djokovic in the final.

Almost 20 years after his first full season on tour, Federer became the first player with 1000 weeks in the Top 20. In his first complete season in 2020, the Swiss played for over 30 weeks and collected 30 wins during the course of the year. The Swiss won his first ATP crown in Milan in 2001 and made an entry into the top 20 rankings for the first time.

Federer won the Hamburg Masters in 2002 after which he broke into the top 10 rankings. The World number one spot was not far away after he won his maiden Grandslam title at 2003 Wimbledon. He achieved the World number 1 ranking after he won the Australian Open 2004 and never looked behind after that. Roger Federer also holds the record for most weeks at World number one with 310 weeks.

Roger Federer is currently in his 1000th week inside the top 20. Second on the list is Andre Agassi who has 868 weeks in the top 20. Rafael Nadal who is currently the world number 2, is fourth on the list with 792 weeks.

As it is clearly visible, the only player closest to Roger Federer and currently playing is Rafael Nadal. Novak Djokovic will also fancy himself to be a part of the Club 1000 as he stands at 706 weeks.
