Roger Federer hung up his racket at the 2022 Laver Cup, and since then, although he has been busy with different business ventures, he has also been spending a great deal of time with his family. Tennis keeps players on the move for the majority of the season, and this certainly doesn’t allow them much time to spend with their loved ones.

Recently, during an interview with Not Your Country Club on YouTube, Federer opened up about his four kids- Myla, Charlene, Leo, and Lenny.

I was at home, walking to school every day, and things were very different for me. My children were homeschooled a lot, and we were on the move a lot. Their lives were turned upside down from day one, so I think they’ve had a very exciting life, but also something that’s not the easiest. I think overall it’s been fantastic.

Federer married former player Mirka Federer in 2009, and in the same year, she gave birth to identical twin girls, Myla and Charlene. Then in 2014, another pair of twins, Leo and Lenny, were born.

And as for tennis, one of my boys, Leo, plays tennis tournaments; the others are a little less interested in it, but they all play, as they all ski and play golf. So I’m happy that we’re a sporty family.

Federer retired with 20 Grand Slam titles, the third most on the men’s tour. The last time Federer won a title was the 2019 Swiss Indoors by defeating Alex de Minaur.

Marin Cilic reveals what Roger Federer told him after their 2014 US Open match

Back in 2014, the US Open was one of the two Majors where none of the members of the Big 3- Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, or Novak Djokovic reached the final. Nadal was absent from the tournament.

Japan’s Kei Nishikori knocked out Djokovic in the semifinals, while Marin Cilic shocked the tennis world by clinching the win over the Swiss maestro in the last four. Cilic, recently during his interview with The Tennis Mentor, recalled what Federer told him after that win.

[It was] just incredible. Even closing that match, it was an incredible game to see. To serve it out. And when I won, it was just pure emotion, pure happiness, a beautiful smile at the end. Then, when I came to the net, Roger said incredibly beautiful words: ‘So happy for you, buddy’.

It was Cilic’s career’s first Grand Slam final and he won it by defeating Nishikori in straight sets. He reached two more Grand Slam finals: at the 2017 Wimbledon and 2018 Australian Open, losing both to Federer. Cilic met Federer 11 times and won just that aforementioned US Open match. The last time they met was in the second round of the 2021 Roland Garros.

The 21-time ATP singles titlist has not yet hung up his racket and was last seen in action at the US Open, where he suffered a straight-set defeat to Alexander Bublik. The last title the 36-year-old won was the ATP 250 Hangzhou Open by defeating Zhang Zhizhen last year.

This year in Grand Slam events, Cilic skipped the Australian Open, lost in the first rounds of both the French Open and the US Open, while at Wimbledon, he played the fourth round. The last time he made a deep run in a Major was at the 2022 French Open, where he lost to eventual runner-up Casper Ruud in the last four.

Djokovic, on the other hand, played the semifinals of all four Majors this season and last won a Grand Slam title at the 2023 US Open. Since then, he has only once played a Grand Slam final (2024 Wimbledon).
