The King is back, it’s official now! Roger Federer announced on social media that he is ready and counting down the days for the Qatar Open. The Qatar Open is of course held in the capital city of Doha, hence often referred to by that name too. As soon as Federer sent out that message, his fans and well wishers started expressing their joy over social media.

This particular tweet  already has over 55K likes and close to 7K retweets in a matter of a few hours. Just goes to show the immense popularity that Federer enjoys all over the world. This kind of reaction is  expected from the Tennis fans over Federer’s return, because it’s been more than a year since he was last seen on the court.

Qatar Open an ATP 250 Open is the perfect return vehicle for Federer

Roger Federer had announced that his return to court after the long hiatus, would happen in a relatively smaller tournament. This was a strategy to guard against extra pressure, stress and to keep the spotlight off him.

In the Tennis world, the hierarchy is Grand Slams, ATP 1000, ATP 500 and at the bottom is ATP 250, the number represents the points you get if you win the tournament. So Qatar Open makes perfect sense for his return. But, can a tournament be low profile if it has Roger Federer participating in it ?

Qatar Open has traditionally not been a Federer hunting ground though. He has won here thrice before, but the last win here came a decade back in 2011. His last appearance in Doha was in 2012. Fans though will not worry about such stats, they will just be happy to see Federer back on court, and hope his knee remains healthy.
