Roger Federer reflected on his career and found that he is relieved that he doesn’t have to play marathon matches. The 42-year-old, who used to turn heads with his sheer elegance is enjoying his retirement days and when he watches some Grand Slam matches, it reminds him of his prime days when he used to pull off incredible results.

He revealed in a podcast that he watched the Roland Garros final match that took place last month between Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev, which the former won in five sets. Federer contemplated while watching that he too played such five-setters in prestigious events in the midst of the crowds and how tough it was for him to achieve what he achieved and, for this very reason, he respects other athletes for giving their all to the sports they play.

I am so relieved that I no longer have to experience this. I mean it was fun, but especially towards the end, I remember the warm-ups, breaks, and warm-ups to go play a game. It was a monumental effort. Now you say: 'What is so important? It's only tennis'. Yes, it's just tennis, but it's your life, and you've tried to do your best in front of people.

On him, a documentary, ‘Federer: Twelve Final Days’, released last month, focuses on the 12 days including the final day he played the last match of his career alongside his arch-rival for most of the occasions, Rafael Nadal, in the Laver Cup. He discussed with Noah several topics about his career including his rivalry with the other members of the Big 4.

Roger Federer has a heartfelt message for his big rivals

Roger Federer retired in 2022, but the other members of the Big 4, Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray, and Rafael Nadal are still playing. And while there is no scene of retirement around Djokovic, who hopes to play more, Nadal’s injury woes may force him to say goodbye maybe next year. Murray on the other hand, doesn’t plan to play beyond the Olympics. Federer told Trevor Noah that he wishes to see the dreams of his biggest rivals get fulfilled.

We hope that Novak Djokovic can continue to break all records. I hope Andy Murray can play as much as his hip allows, and he’s still hungry. Rafael Nadal knew he was also in a difficult situation and hopes to win as much as possible.

Federer is a 20-time Grand Slam champion and retired after bagging 103 titles. He also has a 1251–275 win-loss record on the ATP Tour
