Carlos Alcaraz has won 15 singles titles on the ATP Tour, including four Grand Slams and five Masters 1000 titles. In 2022, at the age of 19 years, 4 months, and 6 days old, he became the youngest man and the first male teenager to top the singles rankings in the Open Era.
The Spaniard is one of the best players on the men’s circuit right now and is predicted to dominate the tour for the next decade at least. However, he is far from the perfect player and has constantly admitted the need to get better. 20-time Major winner Roger Federer has pointed out one aspect where Alcaraz can improve.
Former World No. 1 Federer, who retired in 2022, is currently in Berlin for the Laver Cup. Speaking on the sidelines of the event, he praised Alcaraz while also stating that he should stop attacking every ball on the court as it is not necessary.
His intensity, the power of his shots, his physical abilities… Obviously he has to be careful not to run on every ball, because it’s not necessary, but he will learn with age and time. But he is also very strong when it comes to the important points.Roger Federer said
The Swiss maestro recalled Alcaraz’s incredible five-set win against Novak Djokovic in the Wimbledon final last year. He said that the 21-year-old proved his worth by beating the Serbian, who was playing at his best.
I remember when he beat Novak Djokovic in the Wimbledon final (in 2023). It was something to beat Novak in five sets who was playing at his best, he showed that day that he is that player and that he is here for the long haul. So I am excited to see Carlos play here because I have never seen him play in real life.

Roger Federer ‘excited’ to watch Carlos Alcaraz, recalls practice Wimbledon session with Spaniard
Roger Federer and Carlos Alcaraz will be spending a lot of time together at the Laver Cup in Berlin this week. However, it is not the first time the two will cross paths around the tennis court. Alcaraz once had the opportunity to train with Federer thanks to his current coach Juan Carlos Ferrero.
Federer recalled practicing with Alcaraz at Wimbledon but admitted that he turned down the opportunity for another session as he preferred to share the court with Ferrero instead. He said that he would apologize to the Spaniard for that this week.
I barely know Carlos Alcaraz so I’m really excited to see him play for the very first time. I only practised once with him at Wimbledon when he was still a junior, and then the next day, my coach said, ‘Do you want to warm up with him again?’ and I said, ‘No, it’s okay, I’d rather warm up with his coach, who was my generation, Juan Carlos Ferrero.’ I can apologise to Carlos this week!Roger Federer said (via Tennis365)
While Alcaraz has had the opportunity to take on Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic in competitive matches on the ATP Tour, he has never faced Federer in an official match. When the youngster was making his breakthrough in 2021, Federer was struggling with injuries and eventually retired from he sport.
