Roger Federer will be back on the court playing the Geneva Open 2021 that is set to begin from 17th May, 2021. This will be just the 2nd appearance of the Swiss Maestro in 2021 after previously playing at the Doha Open where he lost in the quarter-finals.

Federer had an injury setback post the 2020 Australian Open and with tennis activities stopping due to the Pandemic, Federer was out for the whole year and made a comeback at the 2021 Doha Open. Federer is working towards recovering and getting completely fit before the 2021 Wimbledon and will also be playing at the 2021 French Open.

While Federer had to miss the other Clay tournaments, the former World No. 1 will play at his home nation which will also be a good practice for the upcoming Rolland Garros which will begin from 29th May,2021.

Thierry Grin, tournament director of the Geneva Open, revealed that the organizers were getting ‘hundreds of requests a day’ from fans to see Federer. However, the tournament will be played behind closed doors and only a few seats will be reserved for the sponsors.

“He is doing OK, otherwise he would not play here. He has already surprised many people in the past.” said Grin when asked about Federer’s decision to play at Geneva Open. “Without the sponsors’ help, Roger Federer playing at Geneva might have never become a reality.” added Grin.

While it is no secret that Federer’s favourite tournament has been the Wimbledon Championships, he has set his eyes on playing the Wimbledon 2021 along with the Tokyo Olympics 2021 and the US Open 2021. He is focusing on selecting the tournaments carefully to maintain full fitness and be completely ready for the matches.

Speaking about Federer’s practice, Grin said, “Roger wants to play as many matches as possible ahead of Wimbledon which is his main goal.”

With bio-bubbles becoming another factor of tournament selection for the players, Federer is yet to comment on whether he will be playing at Noventi Open in Halle, Germany, which has been his routine for the Wimbledon preparation.

Roger Federer back in action is always a good news for tennis fans and they will be hoping for him to go the distance in his upcoming tournaments.
