Roger Federer launched the new Wilson racket, the RF Collection, on his 43rd birthday on August 8. He has partnered with Wilson for about three decades and continued the same after his retirement.
Federer designed the racket, the RF 01 Pro, to help him when he gets back on court. Well, the planning was done when he was still a player, but as he retired in 2022, he did not stop the project and instead thought about how the racket could help the other players.
He had not had enough time to invest in testing the racket during his playing days, but he wanted to give his full concentration to it after hanging up his racket. While designing it, the factors that came to his mind were the weight, the size, and the shape of the frame.
You know, here we are many years later, and I am designing my own collection together with Wilson RF. I think the balance is very important.Roger Federer said in the video Wilson’s Instagram handle shared
Michael Schaeffer, the global product director of Wilson, told Forbes that the racket wasn’t what Wilson makes, but the company gave Federer the creative freedom to develop the racket he would prefer for himself.
That's why we have elements with RF, we have elements with Wilson, and I feel like we struck a good balance.Roger Federer added
He wanted the racket to be more user and player-friendly, and so he wanted the racket to feel light without compromising on the toughness of it. The major focus was just to allow the players to hit more accurately and with good spin. Federer concluded by admitting that he just wanted to somehow stay connected to the game.
Roger Federer wanted RF Wilson racket to look good
Roger Federer is best known on courts for his sheer elegance and grace. He admitted that he wanted his RF Collection to look good for many years to come, and so he chose the colors carefully.

It has to be elegant, stylish, classy. It needs to look good and if you think back in 20 years, 50 years, it has to be a beautiful racket.Roger Federer told Forbes
