The NFL seems to have high aspirations for the grand Super Bowl in the future, as Roger Goodell revealed the discussion of organizing one of the biggest sports events in America outside the country. Unfortunately, their plans don’t seem to sit too well among the fans, who gave unfiltered reactions to the subject on social media.
Ahead of the upcoming regular season game between the Chicago Bears and Jacksonville Jaguars on international soil of London, United Kingdom, NFL Commissioner revealed the big plans for Super Bowl. Although this isn’t the first time this subject has been discussed by Goodell, he seems rather serious this time suggesting there’s a possibility.
The regular season has already reached the international grounds with the annual tradition of playing in London, but this season the NFL is also scheduled a game in Brazil. Goodell further revealed that if the regular season expands to 18 games, which is said to be in discussion, he will plan a total of 16 international games.
With the growth of international viewers, the NFL is aiming to gain prominence all around the world. His international Super Bowl plans are expected to come into motion after 2027, given for the next three years the Super Bowl is already scheduled to take place in New Orleans, San Francisco, and Los Angeles, respectively.
Fans react to Roger Goodell’s plan to conduct Super Bowl outside USA
Since this season, the NFL regular season game has expanded to Brazil. Goodell expressed optimism about organizing a game in Ireland very soon, followed by one in Rio de Janeiro.
He is planning for each team to have an international game in the future. However, the NFL fans in America don’t appear to be thrilled about Goodell’s long-term plans, especially concerning the Super Bowl.
One fan demanded the NFL, writing, “Fire this man! That would be stupid!”, joined by another, who exclaimed, “Then go make another league. This is America.” Here are some of the fan reactions:
Fans argued that the NFL is an American league, and despite the different time zones within the country, it works well for the citizens. If the main event, the Super Bowl, is shifted outside the U.S.A., it would become tough for the fans to watch it.
Some fans put forward firm arguments saying this sport shouldn’t be taken outside the country. Perhaps, if the viewership is the main concern, the NFL might have to listen to American fans.
