During the 2025 NHL Draft, the Anaheim Ducks selected Roger McQueen as the 10th overall draft pick. On Sunday, the 18-year-old picked up No.95 as his jersey number, which sparked some hilarious reactions among the NHL fans.

Despite missing over 51 games last season due to an injury, the Canadian international had an impressive season in the Western Hockey League. He finished with 10 goals and 10 assists (20 points) in the 17 games he managed to play.

In the 2023-24 season for the Brandon Wheat Kings, he scored 21 goals and assisted 30 times (51 points) in 54 games. These performances saw him catch the eye of several teams. On Friday during the NHL 2025 Draft in Los Angeles, the Anaheim Ducks would end up drafting him.

On Sunday, he would officially choose his number. The youngster would pay homage to the iconic Disney character, Lightning McQueen, and choose No.95. He is a huge fan of him, and now he not only shares the same name but also the same number.

Following his draft, the team immediately sent him to Disneyland. The player would land in through a helicopter and was seen taking pictures with some iconic Disney characters, including McQueen.

To make things more interesting, the movie ‘Cars’ in which Lightning McQueen features as the main protagonist, was released 4 months before the birth of Roger McQueen.

Social media was left bonkers on Friday when the Anaheim Ducks immediately sent Roger McQueen, their draft pick, to Disneyland. On Sunday, the fans on X would once again explode with joy as the young player picked No.95 for his jersey in tribute to Lightning McQueen.

On X, several users joined in on the fun. One of them even warned him that things could get worse for him with the trolls if he had a bad performance with the Ducks. Meanwhile, one wrote, “Bro really understood the assignment.”

Roger McQueen and other Anaheim Ducks draft picks throw ceremonial pitch in LA Angels game

The Anaheim Ducks made some top picks in the 2025 NHL draft on Friday. Apart from selecting Roger McQueen, the team drafted Alexis Mathieu, Eric Nilson, Lasse Boelius, Noah Read, Drew Schock, Elijah Neuenschwander, Emile Guite, Anthony Allain-Samake, and Brady Turko. Along with Mathieu and Nilson, McQueen would throw the ceremonial pitch in a Los Angeles Angels game on Sunday.

While Nilson and Mathieu would don customized jerseys of the Angels, McQueen donned his Ducks jersey to the ceremony. He would throw the first pitch at the Angel Stadium in Anaheim before the Angels took on the Washington Nationals.

The Angels would later take to their X account to welcome them. In their post, they shared images of the event and wrote, “welcome to the family” as the three newly drafted stars spend the afternoon watching some ballgame.

Speaking of the LA Angels, the Anaheim-based side ended up losing 7-4 against the Nationals on Sunday. With that loss, the team are left with a 41-42 record after 83 games of the 2025 season.
