Boppana started off his year with a title win at the Qatar Open. Bopanna and Wesley Koolhof won their first team title at the Qatar Exxon-Mobil Open in Doha. Bopanna will be looking forward to having the same results to earn himself a better chance to make it to the postponed Tokyo Olympics.

He will have to perform better on the upcoming tournaments including the Cincinnati Open and the US Open followed by the clay season. Only after such toil will he be able to garner a ticket to represent India in the Olympics at 2021. Bopanna had declared before flying to the US that he will only be back in India after finishing off the season.
