The third Test match of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25 at the Gabba in Brisbane ended with a draw. The match has been heavily affected by rain and bad light on each and every day. At the end of the Test match, India’s legendary veteran off-spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin, announced his retirement from international cricket, ending an era in Indian cricket.

Ashwin announced this decision when he was fifth in the ICC ranking of bowlers and third in the ICC ranking of all-rounders. Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja have been two of the biggest reasons India did not lose a home Test series between 2012 and 2024. He has scalped 537 wickets in 106 Test appearances at an average of 24.01. Ashwin also has 156 ODI wickets in 116 matches and 72 wickets in 65 T20I matches.

After Ashwin’s decision, captain Rohit Sharma was asked in the press conference whether there would be any more surprises on the Indian team during the series, hinting at whether any other player would announce his retirement. Sharma replied that there won’t be any such surprises during the series.

Ashwin played his last match in international cricket during the second Test match of the ongoing Test series in the BGT at the Adelaide Oval with the pink ball. He was left out of the Gabba Test match, and Jadeja replaced him for the Test match.

One of the biggest concerns among the Indian fans has been whether Mohammed Shami, the experienced veteran pacer, will play a part in the upcoming two Test matches at the MCG and SCG. Shami had been out of the game for over a year due to the injury that he suffered after the ODI World Cup 2023.

He has made his comeback in the Ranji Trophy, Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and is also set to play in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. The Indian captain provided an update on the speedster.

But look, I understand he’s playing a lot of cricket back home, but there have been some complaints about his knee as well.
