Rohit Sharma is only the 4th Indian cricketer to win the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna

India’s limited-overs vice-captain Rohit Sharma will receive the country’s highest sporting honour- the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award. Rohit Sharma, one of the most prolific white-ball players in the world at present, is the only cricketer among five sportspersons to win the award this year. Along with Rohit, a couple of Sharma’s have deservingly won the Arjuna AwardIshant Sharma and Deepti Sharma.

Rohit thankful gives out virtual hugs

Rohit became the fourth Indian cricketer to receive the Khel Ratna after Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, and MS Dhoni. The Indian Opener posted a video of himself thanking his fanatics for all the support they shown. After 2016, this is the 2nd instance wherein more than 4 sportspersons are awarded the Khel Ratna in one instance.

Virat Kohli congratulated the 3-Sharmas on registering a national sports award against their name. He wrote, “Congratulations Ishant and Rohit for your respective Arjuna and Khel Ratna Awards Clapping hands sign and to @Deepti_Sharma06 for her Arjuna Award as well. Big congratulations to all the other winners across different sports. Proud moment to remember for each sportsperson.” 

Having had strict implications all around the country. This year the winners would not be walking down the red carpet of the Rashtrapati Bhawan. But winners would be attending the virtual ceremony from their homes and training centers. The ceremony is scheduled for August 29 and the winners are to be announced by the President Ram Nath Kovind.
