Romelu Lukaku was off the mark on his debut for Serie A side Napoli, scoring an emphatic goal against Parma, evoking surprising reactions from fans. The 31-year-old veteran forward recently joined from Chelsea on a £38 million transfer deal, replacing Victor Osimhen.
The Belgian forward made his move to Napoli this summer, from Chelsea. He had spent the last few seasons on loan in the Serie A, at Inter Milan and Roma. This season, however, he reunited with his former Inter boss Antonio Conte at Naples, arriving as a replacement for Victor Osimhen. The 25-year-old Nigerian forward has been excluded from the club’s squad, having failed to secure a move to Chelsea or Al-Ahli. Osimhen has also been stripped of his number nine jersey, with it being given to Lukaku.
The Nigerian could now find himself increasingly out-of-favor, with the Belgian forward having scored a goal on his Serie A debut. Lukaku came on as a 62nd minute substitute and scored in the 96th minute of the match. He scored from 12 yards out, helped by an assist from Leonardo Spinazzola. Parma, who had gone 1-0 up before the break, were close to winning the match, but the forward’s late strike and then another late goal from Andre-Frank Anguissa sealed the match for the home side.

Moreover, the emphatic equalizer marked the former Roma forward’s 100th goal in Italy. The win also helped Napoli move up to fourth in the Serie A standings, with six points from three games this season. Conte’s side are just a point behind table-topper Inter Milan.

Napoli’s new signing Romelu Lukaku captivated fans by scoring his debut goal for the club, with many of them sharing their reactions on the social media platform ‘X’. The goal helped the Serie A giants secure a 2-1 win over high-flying Parma.
One fan exclaimed that the Osimhen might not even make it to the team if the Belgian starts well. Another fan expressed confidence in manager Antonio Conte to bring the best out of Lukaku, while a few others lamented Chelsea for selling their best goal-scorer. A few Napoli fans predicted the ex-Roma forward to end as the season’s top-scorer.

Meanwhile, exiled forward Victor Osimhen, who is still hoping to make his way out of the club, may find it difficult to secure a transfer deal, owing to club director Giovanni Manna’s recent statement on his exit.
