Every action LeBron James takes, both on and off the field, garners media engagement. Furthermore, James looks out to what the media says about him and does not take critiques well. The Los Angeles Lakers forward criticized the NBA media for their persistently negative coverage after Thursday’s game against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

On the other hand, former NBA player, Ron Harper, had a different take regarding the NBA. He was highly critical of the players of the present generation. Harper took to Twitter to voice his concerns and claimed that the players are more like ‘actors.’ For Ron Harper, the game has changed. Back in the day, the game used to be more physical compared to today’s tactical gameplay.

Watching the @ESPNNBA is like watching actors if you fall down it’s a foul bad basketball with bad shots…. Change the game.

Ron Harper tweeted

Over the years, the NBA has seen significant transformation, particularly in terms of how physically demanding the game is. To keep its players safe and to make the game more entertaining to watch, the league has changed a number of its rules. Something that Harper is not a big fan of.

However, not everyone enjoys the way people now play the game. Basketball was rougher and tougher in the 1990s, a time that some older fans and former players like Harper miss. They believe that the sport has lost part of its expertise and appeal and has become too ‘modern’.

Kevin Durant once had a bold take regarding different NBA era’s

Because players in the NBA in the 1980s and 1990s frequently played with a more aggressive style,, the league was famously physical. Players in the modern era have generated a lot of discussion. This is more about whether today’s generation is undervalued defensively. Kevin Durant, a former NBA champion and MVP, shared his thoughts on the matter.

I go back and watch a lot of that those ’90s film, that ’90s film, ’80s stuff, and they play physical, but I just think they got away with a lot of flagrant fouls. I think that’s why they call their era more physical than ours because we play physical here, too.

Kevin Durant said

The style of play was another element that made the NBA more aggressive in the 1980s and 1990s. Players played the game more slowly and focused more on mid-range and post-play shots. Players became more aggressive in the paint as a result, while defenders used their bodies to block easy baskets. Teams took advantage of this speed and stopped players with defensive walls.
