A few weeks ago, Atlanta Braves’ Ronald Acuna Jr. found himself under the spotlight over a controversial media post regarding manager Brian Snitker. On Wednesday, the 2023 National League MVP spoke to the media and apologized to his skipper.

After winning the NL MVP in 2023, Acuna Jr.’s 2024 season was cut short due to an ACL injury in May last year. Since then, he has been out of action.

In April, outfielder Jarred Kelenic got tagged out while he was admiring a ball against the Minnesota Twins. Kelenic thought his shot would fly over the fence for a home run but it instead remained in the field, leading to him being thrown out.

Manager Brian Snitker would downplay this moment after the game. Acuna Jr., on the other hand, made a post on social media that raised eyebrows. In a now-deleted tweet, the Venezuelan international posted, “If it were me, they would take me out of the game.”

In 2019, Acuna Jr. was benched for the game for a similar incident. While he soon deleted the tweet, the message of his had gone viral.

While speaking with the reporters on Wednesday ahead of his return, the 27-year-old informed that he had apologized to Snitker for this and cleared the air.

Just apologized and asked for his forgiveness for what I posted, and for being a distraction. You know, just wanted to clear the air and move on.

Ronald Acuna Jr. told the reporters

A reporter would bring up the 2019 incident and ask him if he still harbored some ill feelings from that. The outfielder stated ‘no’ and claimed that he was thankful to get the chance to apologize for the incident.

No. That was just a moment of frustration for me, but thankfully I was able to apologize to Snit. I was in the wrong. I shouldn’t have done that. But thankfully I was able to apologize to Snit man-to-man, to his face.

Ronald Acuna Jr. homered in first rehab game since ACL injury

Earlier this week, the Atlanta Braves announced that Ronald Acuna Jr. will begin his rehab assignment to come back to the team. In his very first rehab game with the Braves’ minor-league affiliate, Gwinnett Stripers, he went yard.

In the Florida Complex League game against the Orioles’ minor league team, Acuna Jr. went 1-for-3 with his home run coming in the fifth inning. While he was limited to just three plate appearances, his home run in his final outing sparked joy among Braves fans.

At the moment, it is unknown how many minor league games Acuna Jr. will play before being activated on the roster again. As per the rules, a position player cannot stay on a rehab stint for more than 20 days. So, unless there is a setback, Acuna Jr. will be activated by June 1.

Ronald Acuna Jr.’s return could provide massive boost to Braves for 2025 season

The Atlanta Braves did not enjoy a good start to the 2025 season. The 2022 World Series winners went 0-7 to start the year. The return of Ronald Acuna Jr. could be a massive boost to the Braves team for the remainder of the year.

Following their 0-7 start, the Braves have done a bit better. Their 5-2 win against the Washington Nationals on Tuesday saw them reach the .500 win percentage for the first time this year. While they ended up losing on Wednesday and fell below the .500 mark once again, it did give some hope to the Braves faithful.

No team in MLB history has made the postseason after starting the year 0-7. With Acuna Jr. coming back at the moment, the Braves’ offense will get a major boost.

Following the game on Thursday, the Braves will be on a road trip to Boston and Washington to take on the Red Sox and the Nationals, respectively. After that, they will have a 3-game homestand against the San Diego Padres. This could be the series where Acuna Jr. is activated and brought back into the team.
