In Short
  • Ronda Rousey has accused UFC Chief Business Officer Hunter Campbell of attempting to sabotage her return to MMA.
  • She criticized Campbell for misrepresenting her opponent Gina Carano and pushing her to fight other competitors.
  • Rousey has emerged as a vocal critic of the UFC, addressing issues like fighter pay and compensation.

Ronda Rousey was once one of the biggest names in mixed martial arts and remains a widely recognized figure even nearly a decade after her last fight. However, her return under the Most Valuable Promotions banner has revealed a different side of the former champion. The UFC legend has repeatedly criticized the promotion while calling out Hunter Campbell over contractual limitations and compensation issues.

Rousey last competed in the UFC at UFC 207 in December 2016, where she suffered a first-round knockout loss to Amanda Nunes. In the years that followed, a return to MMA appeared increasingly unlikely as she stepped away from active competition. That perception shifted when it was announced that she would face Gina Carano under MVP’s inaugural MMA card on May 16th, 2026.

Campbell serves as the UFC’s Chief Business Officer, overseeing contract negotiations, fighter relations, and key business operations globally across divisions. He has become one of the most influential figures behind the scenes, regularly involved in high-level deal-making. That role has recently drawn attention after Rousey publicly criticized him during a discussion of the stipulations around her return.

I think largely, I wanted to re-write my own ending in MMA. I first reached out to the UFC to get it done because I have so much love for them, and Dana for what he did for me, but he’s not really in charge anymore. Now this guy, Hunter Campbell is running things and he was really trying to like sabotage the deal and get me to fight other people and misrepresenting Gina saying she wasn’t serious and wasn’t going to make the weight.

Rousey has consistently maintained that she holds no hard feelings toward Dana White despite her ongoing issues with the promotion. She has also revealed in the past that she initially reached out to the UFC before Most Valuable Promotions approached her about a potential return. Those discussions ultimately failed due to contractual disagreements, which adds further context to her recent tirade.

Interestingly, Rousey is not the only fighter to recently aim criticism at Campbell, as UFC welterweight Colby Covington has also spoken out about his strained relationship with the UFC. Covington indicated that issues behind the scenes have affected his standing with the promotion in recent times. He also suggested that the UFC was overlooking contenders like Arman Tsarukyan for relatively minor issues.

Ronda Rousey has emerged as one of the UFC’s most vocal critics in recent times. The former bantamweight champion has taken aim at issues ranging from fighter pay and compensation to the promotion’s upcoming White House card, continuing a stream of criticism. Her latest remarks targeting Hunter Campbell only add to that growing list, further highlighting her increasingly outspoken stance.

Ronda Rousey goes off on UFC bantamweight champion

Kayla Harrison rose to prominence through a dominant run in the PFL, where she won the 2019 and 2021 lightweight championships and established herself as one of the top women’s fighters outside the UFC. She later signed with the UFC and made an immediate impact, as the Olympic Judoka went on to capture the UFC bantamweight title with a submission victory over Julianna Pena at UFC 316.

There has been growing discussion around a potential superfight between Harrison and Ronda Rousey, with Harrison’s rise fueling interest in the matchup. Her manager, Ali Abdelaziz, has also expressed openness to the bout taking place under the right circumstances. However, Rousey recently delivered pointed remarks toward the UFC bantamweight champion during an MVP MMA press conference.

Kayla is so irrelevant that she couldn’t even keep the 145-pound division around. Honestly, she’s just sour because no matter what she does or what she accomplishes, she can’t change the fact that she has the charisma of a wet towel and will always be in me and Gina’s shadow. So, the next time she should look down at her feet and consider who paved the road that she’s walking on. Oh wait, she can’t look down at her feet because she’s too busy holding onto the belt in a neck brace.

Harrison is not the only name that Ronda Rousey has targeted in recent times, as the former champion has also reignited her long-standing feud with Cris Cyborg. The rivalry dates back years and remains one of the most talked-about unresolved matchups in women’s MMA history. Rousey has continued to take shots at Cyborg, further adding to her growing list of public callouts ahead of her return.
