In Short
  • Ronda Rousey aims to emulate Dana White's success in fight promotion with MVP MMA.
  • She believes MVP could potentially overtake the UFC in the future.
  • Rousey emphasizes her focus on her upcoming fight against Gina Carano before pursuing promotional ambitions.

Ronda Rousey and Francis Ngannou competing on the same Most Valuable Promotions card may be the highest competition UFC has faced in quite some time. Rousey is taking on Gina Carano in the main event of the card, with Ngannou taking on Philipe Lins in the co-main. However, it seems Rousey is looking beyond this card, into the future.

Throughout the build to this fight, Rousey has taken several shots at her former employers. Although this whole time, she has refrained from taking any shots at Dana White, even giving him credit for the UFC’s success. Now, judging by her recent comments made to TMZ, it seems she wants to emulate the UFC CEO’s path in fight promotion.

I mean, I think nobody is more qualified than me. I’m definitely more qualified than Hunter f*cking Campbell. I think that MVP would be an incredible partner and that Nakisa [Bidarian] and Jake Paul really believe in making sure the fighters are compensated fairly…I would love to be their Dana and shepherd them into the future.

Ronda Rousey discusses her future with MVP

The UFC was struggling when the Fertitta brothers and Dana White took over. But their collective efforts led to it becoming the industry-dominating titan it is today. As a huge star during her UFC run, Ronda Rousey certainly knows her way around growing her own brand. So once Rousey is done with her return to the cage, she can look to pastures beyond.

Rousey truly believes that she and MVP can fill a gap in the market by showing fans what they “miss in MMA.” But her sentiment hasn’t been appreciated by UFC fighters like Khamzat Chimaev, who have claimed the UFC was responsible for her success. Even so, a star of Rousey’s caliber following in Dana White’s footsteps in becoming a fight promoter may lead to the UFC seeing more competition in the future.

After all, the former bantamweight champion has already revealed that this fight is a one-off and that she will not be returning to fighting full-time. So, a more behind-the-scenes role could be more her pace as far as working with MVP.

Nonetheless, the 39-year-old did mention that she would see how things went this time, though. Meaning, Rousey isn’t looking past her upcoming opponent, Gina Carano. She even had an ominous warning for Carano.

Ronda Rousey says she will do all she can to “kill” Gina Carano

Ronda Rousey has a brutal side that makes her into the terrifying fighter she is. This was on full display during the MVP press conference when she unleashed a fiery tirade at Kayla Harrison. But this aspect of her personality reared its head once again as she revealed her mindset heading into her comeback fight.

Despite being out of the game for around a decade at this point, Rousey has not lost her edge. In fact, her “killer” mentality may be at its peak heading into this fight. She revealed her plans for May 16 to TMZ Sports’ Open Mike.

Once they close the door, I’m gonna do everything in my power to kill that chick with my bare hands, and it is up to that referee to stop me. If anything, I want to prove to her, I want to show her the monster that she created, and I don’t want her to be proud of it.

Ronda Rousey on her intentions against Gina Carano

Not only does her striking look sharp, but she also hasn’t lost a step when it comes to her promo ability. Rousey also revealed that only this fight against Carano could have persuaded her to return to fighting. But she also reiterated that even a dominant win wouldn’t lead to another bout. Instead, she revealed her plans for a big family, wanting “at least” two more children.

All in all, it seems Ronda Rousey has big plans for the future. Whether it be professionally or for her family, she has her path laid out. But first, she will need to get past the first hurdle in the form of Gina Carano in the cage.
