Ronda Rousey has spent the past few months preparing for her long-awaited return to mixed martial arts. The former UFC champion will face veteran Gina Carano under the MVP MMA banner after nearly ten years away. During her comeback buildup, Rousey criticized the UFC’s current organizational structure. She recently called out Khamzat Chimaev for publicly opposing her stance toward the promotion.

Rousey last competed in 2016, when she suffered a knockout loss to Amanda Nunes in the UFC 207 main event. Despite preparing for her return under the MVP MMA banner, Rousey has criticized the UFC for failing to meet the standards of her prime. The MMA pioneer also took repeated shots at UFC brass, including UFC CBO Hunter Campbell, during several recent media appearances and promotions.

Chimaev carries major credibility within the MMA community as a former UFC middleweight champion. The Chechen star criticized Rousey for demeaning the organization that once helped elevate her global popularity and legacy. During a recent MVP MMA press conference, Rousey fired back at Chimaev, clarifying that she has no issues with UFC CEO Dana White or the former owners, the Fertitta brothers.

Cleft Lip Lincoln is just hating because at his press conference for his fight, people are asking about me and my fight because no one cares about his ineffectual wrestle fests. People actually can’t stop talking about this fight because it’s so stacked, and they’re actually excited to see me fight because, unlike Kumquat, I have a 100% finish rate.

Chimaev held a strong stance regarding Rousey’s comments, given his own position as one of the UFC’s biggest stars. Days earlier, the former middleweight champion revealed he values outside earnings more than his UFC fight purses from the Octagon. The Chechen phenom explained that he earns enough through brands and promotions, crediting the UFC for helping create those opportunities.

Before taking shots at Chimaev, Rousey explained she still holds deep respect and admiration for Dana White. While criticizing the UFC’s current organizational structure, ‘Rowdy’ hinted that matchmaking control has gradually shifted away from White over recent years. The former champion also suggested the promotion’s top brass no longer cares about losing fans as long as profits remain strong.

Khamzat Chimaev has endured a difficult stretch during the past few weeks following major setbacks. The Chechen star lost both his middleweight title and undefeated record after suffering a split-decision defeat against Sean Strickland at UFC 328. Meanwhile, Ronda Rousey continues building momentum toward her comeback on May 16th at the Intuit Dome while remaining vocal about the UFC’s evolving structure.

Kayla Harrison remains one of the most accomplished female combat sports athletes in the world today. The UFC women’s bantamweight champion built massive credibility through her dominance in both judo and mixed martial arts competition. Harrison won two Olympic gold medals before capturing UFC bantamweight gold through a submission victory over Julianna Pena at UFC 316 in June 2025.

Harrison recently fired back at Ronda Rousey after tensions between both decorated judokas intensified publicly once again. The UFC champion claimed she remains focused on chasing greatness while accusing Rousey of prioritizing financial opportunities over competitive legacy. The comments eventually led to Rousey’s recent response, in which she defended her achievements and ambitions outside the Octagon.

The biggest money fight is the biggest fight, period. And we obviously have very different definitions of greatness. Mine is making history, having a cultural impact, and influencing the future of the sport. I’ve already won a record eight consecutive title fights. So now Gina and I are smashing the record for the most women have ever been paid in combat sports. Hell, if we knock this out of the park, I could become the face of MMA and the most powerful figure in the sport since Dana. I’m not chasing greatness. I am greatness.

Ronda Rousey has criticized Harrison for months, repeatedly questioning her former training partner’s popularity in women’s mixed martial arts. Much of the tension stems from Rousey accusing Harrison of acting like a pioneer despite entering the sport years later. The former UFC champion continues to defend her influence and role in the growth of women’s MMA.
