Rory McIlroy and Team Europe retained the Ryder Cup on Sunday following a 15-13 victory over Team USA at the Bethpage Black Course in New York. After their win, they would troll US President Donald Trump with a 5-word message.

The 47th US President was in attendance alongside his granddaughter, Kai Trump on Friday. Trump, who is a huge fan of golf, would arrive to the field through his chopper in his golf shoes to support the American team.

During his visit, he would stand outside the tunnel and wait for the arrival of Bryson DeChambeau. He would shake hands with the 2-time major champion and his playing partner, Ben Griffin, before meeting captain Keegan Bradley.

Despite the support from Trump, the US team was unable to rally back and ended Day 1 by being 3 points behind their rivals. Following a disappointing showing on Day 2, Team USA found themselves 7 points behind.

They did fight back during the Sunday Singles. The USA won 6 and tied 4 of the 11 matches to earn 8.5 points. However, this was not enough to see them over the line as they lost 15-13 in front of their home fans.

In the midst of the celebration, captain Luke Donald would praise Shane Lowry, who secured the win with a tie against Russell Henley on the final hole. During this, fans would throw in chants of “Are you watching Donald Trump?” leading to giggles from some of the players.

In a video, the Europeans were seen trolling Trump with these chants. McIlroy was seen standing in front, leading this chant.

Trump would later respond to this. On his Truth Social account, the 79-year-old wrote, “Yes I’m watching. Congratulations.

Luke Donald’s words during the press conference moved Rory McIlroy to tears

The year 2025 keeps on getting better for Rory McIlroy. After the World No.2 finally completed the career grand slam by winning the Masters Tournament in April, he has now won an away Ryder Cup while playing an important part in the team. During the press conference, he was moved to tears following some strong words from his captain, Luke Donald.

In the press conference, a reporter would ask Donald where McIlroy would rank if he were to win more Ryder Cups and become the leading point scorer for Team Europe. The Englishmen would compliment the 5-time major champion and claimed that his place in history is already set.

Rory has achieved so much in the game. His place in history is set. … We talk about all the people that came before us, that paved the way for us. Now, future generations will talk about this team tonight and what they did and how they were able to overcome one of the toughest environments in the sport. And that is inspiring to me, and that’s what Rory gets and all these other 11 guys.

Luke Donald said regarding Rory McIlroy

The weekend was not an easy one for McIlroy. The golfer received several abusive comments from the fans during the course of 3 days.

On Friday, he would flip off some fans. On Saturday, he would yell “shut the f*** up” while trying to hit his shots. During that day, his wife, Erica Stoll, also got heckled.

As she and McIlroy were making their way through the course, a fan would snatch a beer glass from another fan and throw it towards Stoll. It would hit her and leave her in shock. During his matchup on Sunday against World No.1 Scottie Scheffler, he received several more offensive taunts.

In the presser, the Northern Irish golfer would hit back at this fan behavior. While sounding off on them, he would call this exhibition unacceptable.

McIlroy and his teammates will likely party hard for the next few days before returning to their normal routine. They will now be eyeing a three-peat of the Ryder Cup at the Adare Manor in Ireland in 2027.
