Rory McIlroy recently pointed out how Tiger Woods enthusiasm to win a match remains the same whether he is playing a TGL game or a major championship event. Since Woods’ car accident there have only been glimpses of his brilliance as he could not participate in all PGA Tour events and even was forced to withdraw from many of them.
Since then McIlroy and Woods have founded the TGL, an indoor gold league team. While its initial introduction gained millions of views and interest from golf enthusiasts, there has been a downslide in viewership in recent matches.
Regardless of the lopsidedness, Rory McIlroy is delighted to share a field with Tiger Woods. He commented on how the GOAT’s “intensity” in these different matches and was amazed to see it remains the same.
…It’s amazing to go up and to compete against one of your heroes. I’ve shared the course with him many times, and I’ve been in a couple of final groups with him, and he has just as much intensity out there tonight as he does when he’s trying to win a major championship or trying to finish off a golf tournament.

🚨⛳️🏆 #MAJOR INTENSITY — Rory McIlroy says Tiger Woods’ compete level during TGL matches is equal to what he sees from him at majors: “…It's amazing to go up and to compete against one of your heroes. It’s the first season for TGL and they have already played four matches. However, despite the appearance of Woods, the viewership ratings have taken a low hit.
According to reports, ESPN drew an average of 864,000 views during the match between Jupiter Links Golf Club vs. Boston Common Golf. It’s quite different from TGL’s debut, when they had almost 1 million followed by the 1 million+ views during Tiger Woods’ first appearance in TGL.
Rory McIlroy lists his golf career goals before retirement
Rory McIlroy listed out three goals he has for himself before he retires from the greens. The goals are – winning The Masters, an Olympic medal, and a Ryder Cup victory. These are the goals the World No.3 is trying to satisfy as of now.

Apart from that he also wishes to see some improvements in the PGA–LIV framework which has been stalled for a year and a half. Following LIV’s induction in 2021 there has been a cold war going on between the two leagues.
I think from an investment standpoint, that deal should and will be done…It doesn’t solve the problem of what the landscape of golf looks like going forward. I’d say the biggest impediment is maybe the differing visions of what golf should look like in the future.

A framework has been established for them to work together in the future but no official movement has yet been made to make it successful. There is hope that this merger will bring golf together again and form a new shape for the future.
