Genesis Invitational Open got heated up following Rory McIlroy’s sudden anger burst at a fan during the event. According to reports, the fan shouted at McIlroy after he missed a ten-foot putt on the third hole.

The fan apparently said, “Blame your caddie” for the missed shot, but McIlroy was not having it. In response, World No.3 fired an F-bomb saying, “Shut the f*** up!”

Reporter Dan Rapport noted, “He (Rory McIlroy) has got zero time for any Harry Diamond slander.” However, this wasn’t the first time Rory McIlroy’s caddie Harry Diamond had to receive harsh criticism from the golf world.

The duo has been together since 2017 but has yet to bag any major victory together. On the sideways, they’ve scooped three FedEx Cups, two Race to Dubai titles, and multiple PGA Tour and Ryder Cup wins together. However, a lack of major victory causes the caddie to draw negative attention from the golf world.

He’s grown into his role really well. I think our record speaks for itself. We’ve won a ton. We’re very close. I love having him on the bag…And I’m never going to give him s*** even if something goes wrong. It would not be worth it.

Unlike Diamond, McIlroy tasted major victory with former caddie J.P. Fitzgerald. Many consider McIlroy to have a better chance of winning if he’s with a fresh caddie. Despite the criticisms, McIlroy has time and again defended his best friend publicly.

After winning the Race to Dubai Rory McIlroy gave a shoutout to Harry Diamond. He said that his caddie receives “his fair share of stick and it’s not warranted.” He called him his best friend, someone who’s always been by his side all these years.

Rory McIlroy hugs Tiger Woods after mother Kultida’s passing

Initially, Woods said he would participate in the event but withdrew just a couple hours later. His mother passed away recently but the cause of death was not revealed.

As per the latest report, Woods is scheduled to make his first appearance at the TGL event on Tuesday and return to competitive golf thereafter. The PGA Tour honored Woods’ mother at the Genesis Invitational by putting an all-white pin flag on the 7th hole and the players wore a red pin on their cap.
