On Sunday, LIV Golfer Tyrrell Hatton claimed a big victory in his career. He saw off Daniel Hillier and took home the Hero Dubai Desert Classic title by a one-stroke margin. Following his win, his fellow Ryder Cup teammate Rory McIlroy heaped huge praise on him and called him a massive asset for the European team.
Hatton started the final round one stroke behind Hillier on the leaderboard. The Englishmen had carded a score of 68 in the third round to get into contention for the title.
In the final round, Hatton shoot 69, 3-under par. At the 18th hole, he kept his nerve at his last putt to hold off the lead and claimed his fifth Rolex Series event title.
Rory McIlroy, who entered the tournament as the two-time defending champion, shot 70 and 71 in the first two rounds. This left him a bit away from the top spot. The North Irish golfer eventually wrapped the event by shooting a score of 66 in the final round and finished T4.
He though had huge praise for Hatton. The 4-time major champion hinted that he (Hatton) could play a massive part for Team Europe in New York during the Ryder Cup.
🚨🗣️🇪🇺 NEW: Rory McIlroy praised Tyrrell Hatton after his win in Dubai and discussed his importance for Europe at the Ryder Cup: “He’ll be amazing in New York… He’s proved that over the last three Ryder Cups. He’s a massive asset for the European team.”

Will Hatton and his Legion XIII teammate Jon Rahm be part of Team Europe though is a massive question. The duo left the PGA Tour last year to join LIV Golf. They were thus handed massive fines and suspended from the PGA Tour.
This year the Ryder Cup will be played at the Bethpage Course in New York. Luke Donald, the captain of Team Europe, would be hoping that he gets to select Hatton and Rahm as the duo bring a strong experience with them.
Tyrrell Hatton left ‘amazed’ by winning Hero Dubai Desert Classic
As the Hero Dubai Desert Classic 2025 kicked off, several eyes were on Rory McIlroy, as he aimed for a three-peat. The 35-year-old did not have a strong start to the event though, which allowed others to knock him below in the leaderboard. In the end, his Ryder Cup teammate Tyrrell Hatton claimed the top prize. After the event, Hatton admitted that he left ‘amazed’ by this win.
Following a slow start, Hatton roared back to the top with a score of 65 in the second round. In the end, he had some nervous moments. However, this time he kept his cool and calmly walked away as the winner.

Since his victory at LIV Golf Nashville in 2024, Hatton has been in impressive form. He claimed the Alfred Dunhills Links Championship and has claimed seven top-10 finishes across the European tour and LIV Golf.
