This week, the PGA Tour will host the Tour Championship and conclude the 2025 season. Ahead of the final leg of the FedEx Cup playoffs, World No.2 Rory McIlroy spoke about the new Tour boss Brian Rolapp and expressed his support for him.
Earlier this year, Jay Monahan announced that he would step down from his role as the Commissioner of the PGA Tour in 2026. A PGA Tour CEO Search Committee consisting of Monahan, Arthur M. Blank, Tiger Woods, Adam Scott, Joe Gorder, and Sam Kennedy would unanimously elect Rolapp as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the tour.
Since then, Monahan has been helping his successor with day-to-day activities. Rolapp, the former NFL executive, is likely going to be part of the proceedings at the Tour Championship in East Lake, Atlanta.
During the press conference of this event, Rory McIlroy was asked by reporters what he learned about Rolapp. The Northern Irish golfer expressed that he had not met him until last week, but was impressed with him following a 90-minute talk.
I was able to spend a good 90 minutes with him just talking through everything to do with the TOUR and what’s the whole thing over the past three or four years and what the future looks like. I like him. I like him a lot. I like that he doesn’t come from golf. I like that he doesn’t have any preconceived ideas of what golf should look like or what the TOUR should look like.
Rory McIlroy told the reporters
McIlroy used to work behind the scenes previously while serving as one of the six player-directors of the PGA Tour. He, though, would step down from the post in November 2023. While there were reports of him possibly returning to this board in 2024, McIlroy would reject the chance to return.
Rory McIlroy reveals that he took home around 1,100 flags after winning the Masters Tournament
This past April, Rory McIlroy finally conquered the greens of the Augusta National. The former World No.1 took down Justin Rose in the playoffs to win the Masters Tournament. The 5-time major champion on Tuesday revealed that he took home around 1,100 flags from the course.

A reporter would ask McIlroy how many Masters flags he had signed. The 36-year-old would smile and claim that he had no idea about the numbers. However, he remembers he took home around 1,100 flags that were left in the merchandise facility at the end of the week.
I have no idea. It’s been a lot. But I do know that they had 1,100 extra — like 1,100 left in the merchandise facility at the end of the week, and we took all 1,100. But it’s been a lot. But I’ll never get sick of signing them. I’ve waited 17 years to sign that flag in the middle, and I will never complain about doing it.

The Masters Tournament was one of those that had eluded McIlroy for a long time. Despite some of his top performances, he would time and again fall short at the Augusta National, leading to many wondering whether he would ever get the job done.
Following wins at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and The Players Championship, he was labeled as one of the favorites to win the Masters this year. After a rough first round start, he bounced back in Rounds 2 and 3 and headed into the final round alongside Bryson DeChambeau as the final pairing.
After a topsy-turvy round on Sunday, McIlroy missed a close range putt on the final hole, which enforced a playoff alongside Rose. While the Englishmen made par on the first playoff hole, McIlroy was able to make birdie and finally clinched the green jacket.
In doing so, McIlroy accomplished another major feat in golf. He became just the 6th player in golf to win all 4 major championships and completed the career grand slam. While he has not won since that triumph in April, he is one of the favorites heading into this week at the Tour Championship.
