The preparations for the 2025 Ryder Cup have begun. On Monday, 5-time major champion Rory McIlroy was seen hitting the range at the Bethpage Course in New York, the venue where this year’s tournament will take place.

Last week, McIlroy was in England playing at the Wentworth Course at the BMW PGA Championship. In the flagship event of the DP World Tour, the 36-year-old finished T20 with a score of 12-under par. This came just a week after he claimed his 4th win of the year.

During the final round of the Amgen Irish Open, McIlroy came from behind and forced a playoff against Joakim Lagergren. The World No.2 eventually took down his challenger in the third playoff hole to win his National Open.

After gaining some momentum from these two events, McIlroy and his teammates traveled to New York for some practice session at the course before the showdown with Team USA. In a video shared by Ryder Cup Europe’s X account, McIlroy could be seen launching a tee shot off the range while wearing the white and blue colors of his team.

Winning an away Ryder Cup is one of the goals of the Northern Irish golfer. A few days ago, he claimed that 2025 would become the “best year” of his career if his team managed to go back-to-back and beat Team USA in New York.

Team Europe has not tasted success on American soil since their triumph in 2012. Since that famous comeback win in Medinah, Illinois, they have suffered huge defeats (17-11 in 2016 and 19-9 in 2021) in their next 2 trips.

Rory McIlroy reveals how captain Luke Donald is helping them prepare for the Ryder Cup

In a few days, Rory McIlroy and his teammates will enter hostile territory as they look to defend their crown. At the BMW PGA Championship, the former World No.1 revealed how captain Luke Donald was helping them prepare for the massive showdown.

The fans at the Bethpage Course in New York are expected to give McIlroy and his team a hard time. In order to prepare for the heckling from the fans, Donald gave his players Virtual Reality (VR) headsets.

He urged them to try it on and simulate the crowd noise. This would help them to prepare and block out the rowdy noise from the spectators, which could distract them.

It is just to simulate the sights and sounds and noise. That’s the stuff that we are going to have to deal with. So it’s better to try to de-sensitize yourself as much as possible before you get in there.

Rory McIlroy told the reporters

During the Irish Open press conference, the former World No.1 would speak on dealing with a hostile crowd and urged his teammates to channel the energy of Novak Djokovic. He expressed that they can take a leaf out of his book in trying to handle the pro-American crowd.
