This past Sunday, Rory McIlroy made a huge piece of history. The 35-year-old completed the career grand slam by winning the Masters Tournament for the first time in his career. He would later take to his social media account and shared a wholesome 4-word reaction to this moment.

He carded scores of 66 on both Friday and Saturday to become the 54-hole leader. The final round saw several twists and turns, and the lead kept on changing hands. On the final hole, he missed a 5-foot par putt and made a bogey, which forced a playoff round against Justin Rose.

During this, Rose made a par, leaving the door open for McIlroy to win the tournament with a birdie. He did just that and finally overcame his demons of the Augusta National. After the winning putt, the Northern Irish golfer fell to his knees and broke down in tears.

During the press conference, McIlroy admitted that winning the Masters was a dream for him. A few hours later after achieving his dream, he dropped a 4-word reaction on his social media accounts regarding this.

Dreams do come true.

The Masters was the one title McIlroy needed to win to complete the career grand slam. He thus became just the 6th golfer to win all four major championships in golf, joining the ranks of Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus, and Tiger Woods to achieve this feat.

9-time major champion Gary Player ‘proud’ to add Rory McIlroy to exclusive class following Masters Tournament win

Winning all four major championships is one of the hardest things in golf. Before Rory McIlroy, only 5 players had managed to accomplish that feat. Following his win, 9-time major champion Gary Player claimed that he was ‘proud‘ to add him to this exclusive class.

Player completed the career grand slam in 1965, a year earlier than Jack Nicklaus. The South African legend won the U.S. Open that year to achieve this feat. Among his other major triumphs, this was the only event he did not win more than once in his career.

In a long message on X, the 89-year-old congratulated McIlroy on winning the Masters and completing the grand slam and wrote that he had made his mark on the sport of golf now.

This is one of the rarest and most difficult achievements in all of sport, something only now six golfers in history have ever accomplished. We are proud to add Rory to our exclusive club and no doubt he has set the standard for his era… Well done, my friend. Welcome to our club.

As per reports from Josh Carpenter of Sports Business Journal, the final round drew in 12.7 million viewers. Meanwhile, the number peaked at 19.5 million viewers from 7 to 7:15 pm. This is also the most watched final round of the Masters Tournament since 2018, when Patrick Reed won the tournament.

According to the report, this was the most-streamed golf event on Paramount+ and the largest non-NFL sports day ever. It is also one of the strongest numbers the PGA Tour has had without Tiger Woods. The attention of the tour will now turn towards the RBC Heritage, the 5th signature event of the year.
