5-time major champion Rory McIlroy recently appeared on The Overlap’s Stick to Football podcast. During this, he spoke about his 2025 season. While doing so, he would even comment about the Ryder Cup and took an aim at Keegan Bradley for not taking action during the abuse from the fans.
This year, the event was contested at the Bethpage Black Course in New York. Even before the tournament began, there were reports that things could get a bit rowdy with the local fans.
In the event, McIlroy suffered severe abuse from the fans. From the very start, the crowd would start heckling him. The golfer would bite back and flip off some of them and even shout “shut the f*** up” at others.
The heckling would get out of hand on Saturday. While he and his wife, Erica Stoll, were making their way through the greens, a fan would hurl a cup of beer at Stoll. Moments later, a fan would drop a slur at McIlroy while recording him on the phone.
A master of ceremonies would start an NSFW chant against him. The PGA of America later announced that she had stepped down from her post and even apologized to him.
The 2025 Masters Champion believes that US Captain Keegan Bradley could have done something. While reflecting on this incident on the Stick to Football podcast, he claimed that Bradley did not do enough to stop this.
There was an opportunity for either Keegan or some of the teammates to be like: ‘Let’s just calm down here. Let’s try to play this match in the right spirit.’ Some of them did that, but obviously Keegan had the biggest platform of the week in being the captain. I feel like he could have said something on that Friday or Saturday night, and he didn’t.

McIlroy, however, did mention that things calmed down a bit on Sunday. During the singles session, he went up against World No.1 Scottie Scheffler and lost. Despite this, he and his team emerged as 15-13 winners and claimed their 2nd successive Ryder Cup win.
Rory McIlroy and Keegan Bradley claim first TGL win
While Rory McIlroy and Keegan Bradley may have different views regarding the Ryder Cup, the two of them kept their differences aside and teamed up on Friday to take part in the TGL. The duo, alongside Michael Thorbjornsen claimed their first-ever win in the TGL.

Last season, McIlroy’s team, Boston Common Golf finished bottom of the standings. They finished with a 0-4-1 record and had just 1 point from their 5 matches.
In their season 2 opener, they edged out the Los Angeles Golf Club 7-5 in an epic back-and-forth match. The match came down to the final hole.
Thorbjornsen, the 24-year-old reserve, would drain a 15-foot eagle putt on the final hole to help his team emerge victorious for the first time in the TGL.
