Rory McIlroy had a tough opening round at the 2024 Open Championship, scoring 78. This was his best score since 2021. Despite being a few strokes over par after nine holes, he was confident about rebounding and completing even par.
McIlroy managed to recover from an early bogey by making a birdie on the third hole. However, the difficulties mounted as he encountered problems at the Postage Stamp hole, resulting in a double bogey. This setback was compounded by another double bogey at the 11th hole after he hit his drive out of bounds.
