The Chicago Bears matchup against Houston Texans had its fair share of violence outside of the football field. Running back Roschon Johnson got hit with a stray shot from Texans’ Azeez Al-Shaair after the latter’s hit on Caleb Williams.
In what was a hyped matchup between two young quarterbacks, the Bears’ players wound up right in Azeez Al-Shaair’s face and allegedly taunted him for hitting their quarterback. This infuriated Al-Shaair, who punched Roschon Johnson in his facemask, despite him not being in the game but sitting on the sidelines.

Roschon Johnson held his ground and chose not to swing back. It was a smart decision on his part but one of the hardest ones.
It took every bit of my soul not to thrash that boy.Roschon Johnson said addressing the incident in the post-game press conference
Financially, Johnson made a good call by not letting his emotions get the best of him. If he had swung back, a hefty fine would be coming his way.
Azeez Al-Shaair is likely to be levied with a fine and face a suspension for his punch
Al-Shaair was fortunate as the referees happened to miss his punch on Roschon Johnson. Had they noticed it, then the Texans would have been penalized with a penalty, and the linebacker would have been immediately ejected from the game.
Al-Shaair addressed the situation from his perspective after he had cooled off. He admitted that the slip-up was “not (his) proudest moment” but in his defense, the “crazy things” said to him by Bears players on the sideline is what infuriated him and drove him to take a swing at Johnson.

So does this mean Al-Shaair is off the hook for the punch? Unlikely. The NFL is expected to review the incident and will accordingly impose a fine upon him, and may, or may not suspend him.
Roschon Johnson deserves credit for thinking straight in this situation and not allowing his ego to get the best of him. His restraint saved him from having to write a check to the NFL.
