Former Indian cricketer RP Singh’s father passes away due to COVID-19

The former Indian pacer took to Twitter to announce the news requesting people to keep his late father in their prayers and thoughts.

Former Indian left-arm pacer RP Singh‘s father Shiv Prasad Singh breathed his last today after suffering from COVID-19. The cricketer took to Twitter to announce the news of his father’s passing and asked for his followers to keep his late father in their thoughts and prayers.

The second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic has been wreaking havoc in India as more than 3 lakh cases are being reported day by day. This dire situation has led to a plethora of deaths as well, even as acute problems like the unavailability of hospital beds and the shortage of oxygen supplies continue to linger on.

Among lives claimed in cricketers’ families, recently Indian leg-spinner Piyush Chawla‘s father passed away and so did rising star Chetan Sakariya‘s father. Further, women’s cricketer Veda Krishnamurthy lost both her mother and elder sister to the dreaded virus.

RP Singh took to Twitter today to reveal the news of his father’s death. He wrote, “It is with deepest grief and sadness we inform the passing away of my father, Mr Shiv Prasad Singh. He left for his heavenly abode on 12th May after suffering from Covid. We request you to keep my beloved father in your thoughts and prayers. RIP Papa. Om Nama Shivaya.

Soon after he announced the news of his father’s death, the former cricketer has been flooded with messages of condolence on his Twitter handle. Cricketers like Pragyan Ojha, Parthiv Patel and Ramesh Powar all sent in their messages of strength and support to the bereaved RP Singh.
