Rajasthan Royals (RR) face Delhi Capitals (DC) today at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. It was heartbreak in their opening match for the Sanju Samson-led team as they agonizingly fell just four runs short of their opposition Punjab Kings‘ total of 221. DC on the other hand began life under Rishabh Pant with a facile victory fashioned by openers Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw.
RR were already without their ace bowler Jofra Archer when more bad news arrived in the form of all-rounder Ben Stokes being ruled out of the tournament. While it remains to be seen if RR would name a replacement for Stokes, all focus would now be on getting their campaign back on track and a win over DC today would be the perfect way to prove that they should not be taken lightly.
Who will win today’s match: RR vs DC
DC would be favourites on paper to win this encounter due to their excellent balance coupled with the performance in the previous match. The openers Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw seemed near-unstoppable as they hit the CSK bowlers around the park. Against a not too strong RR bowling attack that struggled to contain the likes of Deepak Hooda and KL Rahul, they could one again find it difficult.
For RR, the key will be for their overseas players to deliver. None of the four picked in the previous match was able to deliver. They would now expect more of the likes of Mustafizur Rahman, Chris Morris and Jos Buttler. Unless, the overseas stars step up to complement Samson and the Indian bowlers, RR would find it extremely difficult. DC on the other hand seem to have all bases covered and hence, would fancy their chances.
Prediction: DC to win
