Ruben Amorim made his managerial debut for Manchester United against Ipswich Town in the Premier League on Sunday. Expectations were sky high for the former Sporting boss as his side played out an underwhelming 1-1 draw at Portman Road.

The visitors opened the scoring through Marcus Rashford as early as in the 2nd minute through a wonderful team effort. Amad Diallo‘s cross from the right wing was tapped in towards goal through Rashford.

However, several spurned chances in the first half came back to haunt United in the end. Omari Hutchinson‘s left-footed strike took a generous deflection off of Noussair Mazraoui, taking it beyond the reach of Andre Onana.

Following the game, Amorim spoke to the press as he gave a brutally honest assessment of how the future looks for his side.

We are going to suffer for a long period and we will win games. This will take time time.

The Manchester United boss spoke to the press after the draw to Ipswich Town, as he outlined what plans he has for the club. Amorim took a subtle dig at the English media for putting him through more press conferences in one week than he did in four years at Sporting.

Afterwards, the 39-year-old stated the changes needed at United if they are to break free of their problems come next season.

If we just try to win games and not risk anything in this moment, I guarantee next year at the same stage, we’ll have the same problems.

It is evident that the Portuguese is trying to implement a new formation at the club, with a 3-4-2-1 set-up against Ipswich.

United’s next game is against Bodo/Glimt in the UEFA Europa League before they play Everton and Arsenal in the League within the space of a week. Amorim credited Andre Onana for his impressive performance between the sticks and credit him for the draw. The Cameroonian made five important saves at Portman Road.
