Manchester United were desperately in need of a new manager after sacking Erik ten Hag earlier this week. The club terminated the Dutchman’s contract two years early and has ‘appointed’ Sporting CP boss Ruben Amorim as his successor. Even though the 39-year-old has to serve his notice period with the Portuguese club before joining United, it wouldn’t be long before he graces the dugout at Old Trafford.

As Amorim’s move to United edges closer, he revealed what finally made him sign with the club. Even though it isn’t usual for a manager to leave his side midway through the season to join another club, Amorim will be parting ways with Sporting with immediate effect.

I asked United if I could join at the end of the season. It was what I wanted but United said now or never. I had to make the decision and I said yes.

Amorim’s arrival is heavily anticipated at United, with fans excited to see his high-intensity style of play at United. Fans are also hopeful that Amorim brings star striker Viktor Gyokeres with him to the club.

Ruben Amorim reveals ‘non-negotiable’ condition of his own in United deal

Even though Manchester United had the ‘upper hand’ in terms of the negotiation with Ruben Amorim, the Portuguese has now revealed terms of his own. Prior to making the decision to sign with United, Amorim made it clear that he will be bringing his staff with him to the club. He stressed that his staff have been with him since the start (Casa Pia).

Even though he deflected all questions probing his future plans at United, many are interested in knowing whether Viktor Gyokeres will follow the manager. However, the Swedish striker has refused to give a definitive answer and simply brushed the question aside. That being said, Gyokeres only signed for Sporting CP due to Amorim’s influence and will most likely part ways with the club in the coming transfer window.

Amorim also clarified that there were no ‘disputes’ with club management or President as he nears his departure. Amorim had made it clear that it will be his final season with the club from the start.

He also reiterated that it was his intention to stay until the end of the season, but circumstances prevent him from doing so. Sporting are still at the top of the Liga Portugal table with a 100% record.
