Even though Sporting claimed a 4-1 win over Manchester City on Tuesday night, it was Manchester United that truly won on the night. Soon-to-be United manager Ruben Amorim schooled Pep Guardiola in a tactical masterclass which saw the hosts win 4-1.

A sublime hat-trick from Viktor Gyokeres and an impressive finish from Maximiliano Araujo handed the Portuguese side a ‘sweet’ victory. In Amorim’s last home game before leaving for Manchester United, the home crowd at José Alvalade Stadium was in for a treat. Even though Phil Foden helped the hosts to an early lead, Amorim’s men managed to turn the game around in style.

The Portuguese manager was thrown up in the air following the emphatic victory. When quizzed about the win, Amorim downplayed it as not being his happiest moment in charge.

Instead, he reflected upon a moment when Manchester City beat Sporting 5-0, after which fans still chose to applaud him! Fans are expecting miracles as Amorim’s move to Old Trafford edges closer.

Viktor Gyokeres’ stunning hat-trick hands Manchester City third consecutive defeat

It is safe to say that Viktor Gyokeres impressed his audition for Manchester United. Even though Ruben Amorim refrained from even ‘joking’ about the possibility of the player following him to Old Trafford, fans are hoping the rumors are true after his stunning hat-trick vs City. Gyokeres pulled his side back into the game with a composed finish into the left corner in the 38th minute.

The first half ended with the score all square, although three more goals followed in the second half. His second came from the penalty spot, as he sent Ederson the wrong way. With Haaland missing a penalty for his side, Gyokeres’ third from the spot meant even more to the home crowd.

The Swede opted to go low and hard into the bottom-left corner, managing to find the net even though Ederson guessed right this time around. Sporting jumped to second in the Champions League table, just two points behind League leaders Liverpool. Amorim’s final game in charge of the club comes five days later, against Braga.
