Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim accepted full responsibility for the club’s struggles following their recent 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth. In particular, the Portuguese manager took blame for the team’s poor defending, while dealing with set-pieces this season.

The Red Devils remain in the 13th position on the EPL table after their humiliating loss to the Cherries. Despite stunning Manchester City last week with a 2-1 comeback win, they have lost two back-to-back matches since then.

Against Bournemouth, Dean Huijsen opened the scoring through a header from a corner, followed by two goals from Justin Kluivert and Antoine Semenyo. United have now conceded seven goals in the last six matches from set-pieces, raising doubts on Ruben Amorim’s decisions.

The Portuguese boss had replaced Andreas Georgson as the club’s set-piece manager, choosing his former assistant, Carlos Fernandez instead. Speaking after the match, Amorim took up full responsibility for their defeat, while highlighting the need to improve on their set-piece defending.

He added that the team lost because of its failure to convert chances. Moreover, he claimed that set-pieces make United nervous, leading to the mistakes. Amorim reiterated his responsibility of coaching the players better.

It’s my responsibility to coach them… Without conceding nothing to the opponent and then one set-piece makes us more nervous, all the stadium. I felt it since the first minute, there’s a lot of anxiety.

Moreover, when asked about the possibility of exiled forward Marcus Rashford’s return to the squad, Ruben Amorim stated that he is unsure. Nonetheless, the Red Devils will remain in the bottom half of the table during Christmas this year, for the time since 1989.

Manchester United board to let Ruben Amorim decide upon Marcus Rashford

The Manchester United board and Sir Jim Ratcliffe are not expected to interfere in Marcus Rashford’s situation at the club, amid exit rumors. They have reportedly left it upon manager Ruben Amorim to decide upon the 27-year-old’s selection in the squad.

Rashford was left out of the squad for the third straight match, failing to even make it to the bench for eight long days. He has reportedly fallen out of favor under Amorim, as he most recently expressed his desire to leave the club.

Amorim has chosen to go with youngster Amad Diallo instead. There is reportedly no pressure from the board on Ruben Amorim to include the forward in the team.

While Ratcliffe would want Rashford to regain his lost form, it seems evident that he remains unwanted at the club. Manchester United may demand up to £40 million from clubs in exchange for the talented Englishman. It remains to be seen what lies ahead for the 27-year-old forward.
