“It’s a baby bro!” Rudy Gobert SLAMMED for missing playoff game over birth of first child
The Minnesota Timberwolves are in prime position to take control of round 2 of the playoffs.
Gilbert Arenas slams Minnesota Timberwolves star Rudy Gobert for missing Game 2 of playoffs over birth of child
This year’s playoffs might be the most important in the lives of any of the Minnesota Timberwolves players. A win in this series will take them to the Western Conference finals and with a shot at the NBA title.
But Rudy Gobert has a different problem on his hands. He decided to skip Game 2 against the Denver Nuggets for the birth of his child. Former All-Star Gilbert Arenas calls out Gobert for this decision.
It's a baby bro! It's going to be there when you get back. Whatever you about to think you about to do with the baby, he going be asleep. I get you want to be with your wife and smile and stuff. You get NBA healthcare insurance is because you playing.Gilbert Arenas said via Gil’s Arena podcast
Areas slammed Rudy Gobert as he could not understand the logic. According to him, the baby was not going anywhere.
Arenas had his logic built on the fact that after the Timberwolves won Game 1, everyone in the basketball universe was talking about how they figured out a way to beat the reigning champions. A task that their fellow conference rivals could not do throughout the season.
Therefore, for Arenas, the situation at Gobert’s workplace was more important. If the Timberwolves take Game 2 of the playoff series against the Denver Nuggets, it puts them in a great position as they head back home for the next two games. Rudy Gobert is vital to that goal.
Rudy Gobert’s defense helps Minnesota Timberwolves unlock another level in their game
Before coming to the Minnesota Timberwolves, Gobert was seen as an amazing defender, but not worthy of a fully guaranteed $205 million contract. He was also criticized for breaking up a Utah Jazz team that was looking to move into the top of the West. Fast forward to all these years and Gobert still is an amazing defender, and he still gets criticized.
However, his impact on this Timberwolves squad has started to show why they made the trade for him back then. His ability to man the paint in a way that not only big men but also smaller players avoid taking a shot anywhere near the basket. That is some game altering defensive prowess. Something that has helped his teammates focus their defensive intensity on the perimeter.
Therefore, the young Timberwolves are able to keep themselves fresh and not overwork, trying to guard multiple positions. However, it was necessary for Rudy Gobert to be playing in game 2 in this playoff series. Gilbert Arenas is not completely wrong to call out the Frenchman, considering the gravity of the situation.
