Rudy Gobert has a special relationship with Draymond Green and Shaquille O’Neal. The Frenchman is constantly subjected to trolls and taunts from the two NBA champions. So much so that they even tried to bait superstar Luka Doncic into doing the same live during the Western Conference Finals.
That trolling hasn’t stopped. In fact, they took it to the next level when they saw a bizarre move from the Frenchman during the Paris Olympics gold medal game.
Shaquille O’Neal took to his Instagram account to post a clip of the said incident. After the clip played, he added a part of him showing a weirdly surprised look. He then posted it with the caption;

When Draymond Green saw this clip, he shared it on his Instagram account with a lot of laughing emoticons. It seems these two enjoyed seeing the Frenchman make the bizarre move at the Olympics which made no sense.
The said incident happened in the third quarter with ball in Rudy Gobert‘s hands. As he tried to create space for himself, Joel Embiid poked the ball out of his hands. Gobert seemed to lose his balance and fell on to the floor. Embiid tried to stop him from falling. As the former MVP reached where Gobert was, the Frenchman put his head between Embiid’s legs.
Rudy Gobert tried to manufacture a foul out of the entire incident, leaving even the likes of LeBron James and others baffled as there was no way one could get into that position. No wonder Shaquille O’Neal and Draymond Green had a field day.
Rudy Gobert had a Paris Olympics to forget
Rudy Gobert started the Paris Olympics as one of their prime interior defenders. He played an average of 21 minutes, which is in line with what most starters play. But since then, his status in the team turned around. It seems France head coach Vincent Collet felt that Gobert hogging the interior was not helping phenom Victor Wembanyama play to his best.
He was right, as in the knockout stage games against Canada and Germany, he didn’t play more than five minutes—that too off the bench. Gobert again came off the bench in the gold medal game. However, he only played 12 minutes as he was tasked to slow down the bigs playing for Team USA. The increased minutes did not have much of an impact on his performance.
If this is the situation now, the situation is only likely to worsen. After all, France has a lot of younger players waiting in the wings. They know their chances against Team USA is better with them. Therefore, it might not be long before Rudy Gobert sees his national team hopes diminish.
