In a late surge on Sunday, Russell Henley came from 3 strokes behind to stun 2-time major champion Collin Morikawa and win the Arnold Palmer Invitational. A chip-in eagle at the 16th hole turned out to be the decisive point in the final round.

Morikawa led the signature event by one shot after the first three rounds. While looking to claim his first win since 2023, the 28-year-old was in contention of winning the event and led by 3 shots after a 1-under par score on the front nine.

Despite a bogey-par-birdie to start the back nine, he was still leading by 3 shots. However, he made another bogey on the par-3 14th hole which opened the gates for Henley and the others.

Henley turned the tide in his favor with an eagle on the 16th hole. A chip in shot saw him go 2-under for the round from an even par.

He would make no mistake from there on and with two pars on 17th and 18th hole, he finished 1-shot ahead of Morikawa to snatch the 2025 Arnold Palmer Invitational championship.

The victory on Sunday moved Henley into the top 10 (7th) of the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR). However, the American golfer does not feel like he is a top-10 golfer in the world.

I don’t really feel like a top-10 player… So it’s hard for me to kind of comprehend that.

Russell Henley said as per the PGA Tour

It was another heartbreak for Morikawa in the end, as he lost another event after having a good lead. Following the bogey, he was unable to make any birdies and shot even pars on the last four holes, which cost him the chance of winning a signature event.
