The New York Giants and the Dallas Cowboys battled it out till the end in the Week 2, trading leads and scoring a combined 77 points in one of the most exciting games of the new season. The Giants, however, were on the unfortunate side of the score bug at the end as Brandon Aubrey converted a decisive field goal in the final minutes of overtime.
The Big Blue’s performance in front of the Dallas fans was highly praiseworthy, especially Russell Wilson. Wilson, who was brutally ripped into after his weak numbers in the season’s first game, delivered Giants history at the AT&T Stadium on Sunday. Wilson threw 30-of-41 for 450 yards and three touchdowns and one interception.
The performance was one-of-a-kind. He was about to make history for the New York Giants franchise before his plans were thwarted by ‘that’ interception. If Wilson hadn’t thrown the interception in overtime, he would have become the first Giants player in 40 years to throw for 400 or more yards and 3 touchdowns with 0 interceptions.

The Giants almost had the game and could have even won if not for the penalties. The team became synonymous with penalties from the start when LT James Hudson struck a Cowboys player on the helmet and caused 4 penalties in that one drive. Hudson was benched and replaced with Marcus Mbow. Overall, the Giants lost 160 yards because of penalties.
After all, it wasn’t just Wilson who played to his best; Malik Nabers once again proved he’s the man to put your trust in. There was no animosity in him from the last game. Nabers had 167 receiving yards, a figure almost matched by rookie Wan’Dale Robinson (142 yards). They also had the support of another rookie, Cam Skattebo (45 rushing yards). Overall, the Big Blue looked like a threat to the Cowboys’ divisional streak.
The Cowboys extended their divisional streak over the Giants to nine consecutive wins, the longest active among any NFL franchises.
Russell Wilson doesn’t want outside validation to prove himself
After the hard-fought game, Russell Wilson reflected on his mindset and faith in the post-game interaction. He said that the most important thing was to respond when challenged. The QB also admitted he was not fully aware of how talented he might be, though he understood his own capabilities.

In light of his antics, the media have claimed that Wilson has silenced his critics with his recent performance. But Wilson doesn’t need anyone else’s praise or criticism to validate them. He explained that his confidence came from the grace of God and expressed gratitude for being given the ability to perform on such a platform through both the highest moments and the difficult ones.
Wilson also claimed that he doesn’t run away from the outside noise but rather embraces it.
So, for me, I embraced the noise. I don’t run from it… Today, we didn’t do enough to win. That’s all that matters, is us as a team, us finding a way to win that game. We believe in the guys in this room.
Russell Wilson said
Coach Brian Daboll also touched upon this media claim about Wilson. Daboll noted that Wilson doesn’t care about any outside noise. He observed that the quarterback had been doing this for so long and didn’t pay attention to the outside distractions that accompanied the role.
The Giants have a tough road ahead with key games against the Kansas City Chiefs, Los Angeles Chargers, and Philadelphia Eagles. Currently, they will hope that Sunday’s loss will not bleed into these games.
