Russell Wilson dusted off the rust in the first preseason game of 2025. In the second, the veteran quarterback showed the Giants fans a glimpse of his arm strength.

Wilson opened under center for the Giants during Saturday’s preseason fixture against the Jets. Gang Green wasted their first drive by punting the ball back to the G-Men.

The 36-year-old quarterback lined up in shotgun. After center John Michael Schmitz snapped the ball, Wilson dropped back to fake a toss to his running back and launched a deep ball into the Jets’ territory.

Undrafted rookie wide receiver Beaux Collins caught the ball and carried it close to the goal line. Collins was inches from his first touchdown in the NFL before Jets safety Andre Cisco tackled him to the ground.

The drive ended with Devin Singletary’s touchdown on the ground.

Head coach Brian Daboll introduced rookie Jaxson Dart for a snap in the second quarter. Dart threw a sidearm pass to tight end Theo Johnson for a 30-yard gain before Isaiah Oliver brought him down.

Daboll sent Wilson back for a second bite at the cherry. Wilson threw an interception straight to DB Qwan’tez Stiggers. His night ended with 4 completions from 7 for 108 yards and one pick.

Dart stepped in for the second time in the game. He looked sharp. In the third quarter, Dart dissected the Giants’ defense to complete a 20-yard touchdown pass to tight end Greg Dulcich.

The Ole Miss alumnus wasn’t finished. He bulldozed his way into the end zone with a quarterback sneak. It was Dart’s first-ever back-to-back touchdown drives for the Giants. Before leaving the game, Dart amassed 14 pass completions from 16 for 137 yards and two total touchdowns.

Jameis Winston took over from Dart. Winston went 3 of 4 for 75 yards and one pick. His only touchdown came on the ground.

The Giants introduced the fourth quarterback, Tommy DeVito, to the game. DeVito looked solid with a defense-splitting 41-yard completion to WR Jordan Bly. However, he was intercepted in the end zone after his pass hit the back of a Jets defender’s helmet and looped into his teammate’s hands.

The fixture ended with a 31-12 score. Jets quarterback Justin Fields only completed one pass on five tries and one dash before Aaron Glenn took him out of the game for Adrian Martinez.

Martinez threw 12 completions, one interception, and 114 yards. Rookie Brady Cook recorded 6 from 11 attempts and one touchdown pass to fellow first-year player Quentin Skinner, who hurt himself after catching the pass.

It’s 2-0 for the Giants, while the Jets are 1-1 in the preseason, with one game left for each.

Russell Wilson looks ready to lead the Giants

The Giants seem to be hitting every note at the moment. Of course, it’s only preseason, but it’s important to start the regular season with high morale.

Dart’s growth is an encouraging sign for the Giants. However, Wilson is still the QB1.

Daniel Jones’ departure left a big hole in the Giants quarterback room. They searched for a proven veteran presence and were linked with both Matthew Stafford and Aaron Rodgers for the early parts of the offseason.

Stafford restructured his contract with the Rams, and Rodgers signed for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Ironically, Daboll turned to Wilson, who was the starting QB for the Steelers in 2024.

Daboll further signed Winston for a two-year deal and drafted Dart in the first round for good measure.

The Giants wrap up their preseason adventure by welcoming the New England Patriots before hitting the road to DC for the opening day clash against divisional rivals, the Washington Commanders.
