Amid doubts and pressure to form, Russell Wilson has proved his worth in the last couple of weeks leading the Steelers to three wins since starting. Wilson has led the team to commanding wins over the New York outfits and Washington Commanders.
The veteran quarterback left the Denver Broncos after two unsuccessful years with them. The Super Bowl-winning champion failed to register at least one winning season with the Broncos, bringing doubts to his abilities. Earlier, Wilson was released by the Seattle Seahawks following the 2021 season when they failed to qualify for the playoffs for the first time since 2011.
In a recent sitdown with Hannah Storm of ESPN, Wilson addressed the moment that led his signing to the black and gold. The Black and Gold had a couple of disappointing seasons that saw them barely rolling into the playoffs. It was inevitable that they needed a solid center after they ended last year with a 10-7 record.
Wilson admitted Mike Tomlin, the Pittsburgh HC for playing a major role in his agreement to play for the Steelers. Wilson added that he shares a similar kind of vision with football as the decorated NFL head coach.
Wilson also talked with TJ Watt and Minkah Fitzpatrick, both of whom filled Wilson in on the team chemistry. He also recollected the moment after a conversation with Fitzpatrick when he zeroed in on his wife Ciara Wilson. He then told her, who’s been at his side for all major moments, that he knows where he wanted to go.
Nearing 36, Russell Wilson feels he has more years in him
Russell Wilson has been enjoying a merry ride with the Steelers, since taking the field after injury. They have established themselves as Super Bowl contenders with their recent form, setting up an intense competition for the top spot in the division with the Baltimore Ravens. The win over Commanders was a testament to how far the team will push at times to win.
As Wilson approaches his 36th birthday later this month, questions about his remaining time in the league are inevitable. However, if it’s up to him, retirement isn’t on the horizon just yet.
It is yet to be known whether five or seven years would be in Pennsylvania. He will become a free agent in the summer with his future depending on how the season plays out.
