Russell Wilson has made his first public appearance after signing with the New York Giants. The 36-year-old quarterback attended Tuesday’s New York Knicks game at Madison Square Garden.
The Knicks hosted the Los Angeles Clippers. Before the game began, the jumbotron flashed Wilson’s past glory, holding the Lombardi Trophy during his Seattle Seahawks days.
The crowd cheered for Wilson during the introduction. Draped in all-black attire and a cap, Wilson waved at the camera and signed a football. He then launched the signed ball into the crowd.

Wilson became the latest quarterback to sign with the New York Giants this offseason. The Giants waited for Aaron Rodgers to make up his mind, and the former Packer leaned towards the Steelers over the Big Apple team, making it easier for them to sign Wilson. He penned a one-year, $21 million contract with $10.5 million guaranteed.
After signing with the Giants, Wilson released a statement.
Some of my most fond memories of this game that I have poured my heart and soul into every day have happened here at the MetLife Stadium. I am excited to create some more memories with some amazing teammates and really for the fanbase.

Before Wilson, the Giants signed former Tampa Bay Buccaneers, New Orleans Saints, and Cleveland Browns quarterback Jameis Winston to a two-year deal. Undrafted free agent Tommy DeVito was re-signed as additional depth in the quarterback room.
Russell Wilson expects to be the starter
Wilson joining the Giants can only point to one thing. Brian Daboll wants the Pro Bowler to start over Winston and DeVito.

When New York Daily News’ Pat Leonard spoke with Wilson on Zoom, he replied that he expects to be the starter.
I expect to be the starter and rock n roll every day.

The situation is in Wilson’s favor. He spent time with coordinator/assistant head coach Mike Kafka and quarterbacks coach/offensive pass game coordinator Shea Tierney during his time at NC State.
Russell Wilson says he's intrigued by Brian Daboll's competitive streak. They haven't talked ball much yet, but he likes what he has seen.

Goes back a long way with Shea Tierney to days together at N.C. State.
Wilson has a very exciting core of receivers at his disposal. Rookie sensation Malik Nabers will benefit from Wilson’s deep passes. During his first year in the NFL, Nabers recorded 109 receptions for 1204 yards and 7 touchdowns. It will not surprise anyone if that number shoots up in year two.

Besides Nabers, the Giants have Jalin Hyatt and Darius Slayton on the roster. Slayton especially seemed thrilled about Wilson signing for his team.
Giants country… Let’s ride.

In early March, when the Giants played tug of war with the Steelers for Wilson, Slayton picked the former Broncos under center over Rodgers. In an interview on SNY TV, Slayton said that Wilson still had “still got gas in the tank.”
Well selfishly I think he’s been career noted as having a great deep ball, so I love that, of course.

Will the New York Giants not draft a quarterback?
Now the biggest question on Giants fans’ minds is whether Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen will still go through with their original plan of drafting Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders using the 3rd overall pick.
Sanders’ father/Colorado coach Deion Sanders recently revealed that the Giants fit his son better than either the Browns or the Tennessee Titans.
New York Post’s Paul Schwartz believes that Sanders is still in play for the Giants.
A quarterback is definitely still in play. When you sign a 36-year-old to a one-year contract, what you mean is you want him to play this year; you have Jameis Winston as a backup, but you want to look ahead and maybe get a quarterback in the draft. The Giants have the No. 3 pick; I would say that Shedeur Sanders is probably and definitely in play if he is available. Cam Ward will probably go to the Titans.

Wilson’s signing certainly shifted the mood around New York. Daboll and Schoen have several options to work with. If Wilson doesn’t work out, they can easily move on and put Winston as the starter in 2026 before letting Sanders take over as their next franchise quarterback.
